Precision Steel Services, Inc., a leading steel supplier in the Midwest since 1974, is seeking a dedicated Shipping Material Handler to join our team. We pride ourselves on our commitment to our employees and the quality of our US‑manufactured steel products. The Material Handler is responsible for safely transporting, staging, and preparing materials for internal processing and outbound shipments. This role ensures materials are handled in a customer‑ready manner, supports efficient warehouse flow, and maintains a clean, safe, and organized environment.
Responsibilities
Transport materials throughout the facility using warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and carts.
Operate overhead cranes to load and unload trucks and to organize heavy materials in designated storage areas.
Secure materials on skids or pallets to ensure safe transport and delivery to customers or internal departments.
Prepare outgoing orders to meet packaging, labeling, and quality standards prior to shipment.
Accurately complete paperwork including piece counts, skid tags, load sheets, and shipment documentation.
Store materials and shipping supplies in their proper locations to support organization and inventory accuracy.
Present materials in a customer‑ready condition, ensuring cleanliness, labeling, and visual quality are acceptable.
Qualifications
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to accurately sort, count, and verify items received.
Basic understanding of railway, dock, and warehouse procedures.
Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and/or inventory software to maintain records, input data, and create reports.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous warehouse scanner use preferred, but not necessary.
Previous crane use preferred, but not necessary.
State driver’s license for operation of forklift highly preferred (or previous forklift certification).
Physical Requirements
Must be able to work five (5) days/eight (8) hours a day.
Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at times.
The ability to traverse the warehouse and access a variety of storage spaces and shelving units by stretching, squatting and reaching.
Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures in the warehouse and on the loading dock.
