Location: Carol Stream, IL (moving to a brand-new Bartlett, IL facility)
Job Type: Direct Hire
Pay Rate: $29-$34/hour + overtime
Schedule:
5:00 PM - 5:00 AM
4 days one week, 3 days the following week (built-in overtime)
We are partnering with a growing manufacturer in the plastics and film extrusion space that is in the middle of an exciting transition. The team is relocating to a brand-new facility in Bartlett with new equipment, creating strong long-term growth opportunities. With upcoming retirements and internal mobility, this role offers clear advancement potential for a hands‑on leader who enjoys building teams and helping operations get up and running during times of change.
Position Summary The Shift Supervisor is a hands‑on leader responsible for overseeing daily film extrusion operations on an assigned shift. This role supervises a small team of operators and a maintenance technician while actively running extrusion lines as needed. The Supervisor is accountable for meeting shift‑level safety, quality, productivity, and operational goals while ensuring smooth handoffs between shifts and continuous production.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate shift operations for film extrusion lines, including extruders, chill rolls, haul‑offs, and winders
Operate extrusion equipment as needed and provide training and guidance to operators
Lead and organize line changeovers and ensure adherence to production schedules
Monitor quality, safety, and output metrics to meet or exceed targets
Troubleshoot process and equipment issues to minimize downtime
Support new product trials and process validation activities
Enforce company policies, OSHA regulations, and EHS standards
Maintain accurate shift reports and production records in ERP/CMMS systems
Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and quality teams on continuous improvement initiatives
Lead, coach, and evaluate employees; assist with hiring and team development
Complete performance reviews and address disciplinary matters as needed
Ensure strong 5S practices and safe work habits at all times
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
10+ years of experience in plastic film extrusion
Minimum of 2 years in a lead or supervisory role
Strong hands‑on knowledge of extrusion operations and troubleshooting
Proven leadership skills including coaching, problem‑solving, and delegation
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, SOPs, technical drawings, and production schedules
Basic math skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office
Familiarity with ERP/CMMS systems (Epicor, Maximo, or similar)
Strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
Fluent in English (spoken and written)
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree or technical certification in plastics, extrusion, or mechanical/electrical fields
Strong mechanical aptitude
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (8-12 hour shifts)
Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching
Ability to lift and carry 25-50 lbs. occasionally
Manual dexterity to handle tools, equipment, and materials
Ability to work in manufacturing conditions including heat, cold, humidity, noise, and dust
Must wear required PPE including safety glasses, steel‑toe shoes, and hearing protection
