Position Function The Advising Lead oversees advisors within a designated college, ensuring consistent, student-centered support. They serve on the advising leadership team, collaborate with campus partners, and support advisor training, technology, and data-informed practices.
Responsibilities
Serve as a member of the advising leadership team.
Coordinate professional academic advising efforts within one or more designated colleges.
Generate and analyze advising reports to assess advising effectiveness and inform improvements.
Coordinate advising-related forms, academic appeals, and necessary documentation with advisors and appropriate administrative or student services offices.
Collaborate with ITS, Enrollment Services, and other campus partners to support advising operations.
Monitor advisor assignments and caseload distribution to ensure balance and efficiency.
Facilitate engagement and collaboration with faculty on advising-related matters.
Assist with college-specific training and onboarding for academic advisors.
May advise a reduced caseload of students, depending on institutional needs.
Partner with other college administrators to ensure consistency in curriculum sheets and advising forms.
Maintain up-to-date advising information on college and departmental websites.
Oversee the transition (“pass‑off”) process from professional academic advisors to faculty advisors.
Coordinate and support academic advising during new student orientation programs.
Serves on committees as appointed by the Executive Director.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Full supervisory responsibility for other employees is a responsibility.
Minimum Qualifications Applicant must have a Master’s degree or equivalent in Education, Counseling or a Related Field or 3 years’ experience related to student success and/or academic achievement. Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered with HR approval.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with coworkers, students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
Knowledge of advising policies and procedures.
Ability to manage projects and delegate effectively.
Ability to independently perform high quality work following well‑defined policies and procedures while simultaneously performing in a team environment.
Ability to draw data‑informed conclusions and make strategic recommendations.
Skilled in the use of personal computers and related software applications and data systems.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Strong problem‑solving and organizational skills.
Ability to multi‑task while providing technical leadership and direction to advisors.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
No or very limited physical effort required.
