Job Description Summary As Manager of External Communications & Mission, you will shape the narrative of Bel as a trusted leader in nutrition, sustainability, innovation, and social impact. Working closely with the Chief Sustainability & Communications Officer, you will grow and activate a dynamic network of influential partners—institutional, industry, media, and government—to amplify our mission and create compelling, purpose‑driven content that energizes audiences and elevates Bel’s reputation.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Communication Planning
– Develop and implement plans to raise awareness, build reputation, and drive impact. Monitor trends and public sentiment, adapting plans as needed. Coordinate cross‑functional teams to ensure successful initiatives.
Public Affairs & Events Management
– Develop content and drive the execution of public relations activities and events that increase visibility for Bel’s U.S. mission‑led strategy. Organize, manage, and promote flagship events (e.g., Climate Week NYC, SXSW). Secure speaking opportunities at conferences, panels, or industry events. Manage sponsorships and partnership programs to drive visibility and/or social impact. Position Bel executives and employees as experts in Purpose‑Full Snacking. Track and deliver on aligned KPIs.
Media Relations
– Build and manage direct relationships with journalists and media outlets. Draft and distribute press releases (e.g., events, product launches, partnerships). Develop materials for media briefings and interviews. Handle press logistics, media coverage, and budgets for external‑facing events. Monitor media coverage and adapt communications plans accordingly.
Content Creation & Storytelling
– Write content for Bel U.S. (LinkedIn articles, posts, press releases, media briefings). Develop engaging visual presentations and communication materials. Coordinate responses to media inquiries, draft government‑affairs event communications, and ensure content relevancy and accuracy across global partners.
Crisis Management
– Partner with the CSCO and global teams to organize crisis responses and training. Inform, support, and participate in crisis communications with agencies, internal teams, and external partners to ensure consistent messaging. Monitor and report emerging risks (social media reactions, hot industry topics, consumer concerns) and recommend mitigation responses.
Qualifications & Competencies
5+ years of experience in external communications, public relations, or a related field.
Exceptional project/campaign management and execution skills; ability to simplify and prioritize.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, translating complex topics into clear messages.
Strong stakeholder management and networking; ability to navigate, engage, and influence.
Experience and passion for sustainability, nutrition, and/or food systems initiatives.
Entrepreneurial spirit, growth mindset, and creative agility.
Proficiency in multiple traditional and non‑traditional communication channels.
Proficient in developing visual presentations and communication materials (PowerPoint, Canva, Adobe Illustrator).
Degree in communications or an interdisciplinary field relevant to Bel’s mission.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint; familiarity with Meltwater and/or Cision is a plus.
Working Conditions Hybrid office environment in New York (or Chicago). Regular business hours; average 40 hours per week. Occasional travel and project deadlines may cause interruptions. Reasonable accommodations available for qualified individuals with disabilities.
Total Rewards
Base Salary: $125,000 – $140,000
Bonus Potential: 20%
