invites applicants for a temporary position focused on field, lab, and data work in a study of the Crystal skipper butterfly along North Carolina’s barrier islands.
Responsibilities • Conduct field surveys for butterfly presence and abundance, measure habitat variables, and perform demographic experiments. • Handle and rear butterflies from egg to adult in the laboratory. • Estimate floral nectar production and enter data into the study database. • Provide outreach and communication support related to the research. • Respond to fieldwork demands, including early‑morning starts and weekend work.

Hours: 20–40 per week
Pay: $15.50 per hour
Qualifications
Experience in ecological field and lab research
Ability to follow established protocols and work independently or as part of a team
Comfortable working outdoors in high heat and humidity
Attention to detail and punctuality
Experience collecting and accurately entering data
Ability to handle small, live insects
Requirements
Combination of training and experience to perform the duties
Valid North Carolina driver’s license
Education: minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Preferred
Experience working with live insects
Experience identifying butterflies and/or caterpillars
