University of Wisconsin‑Eau Claire — Youth Services Social Worker Location: Eau Claire, Wisconsin | Salary: $15.00–$17.00 per hour

Position Summary The Social Worker – Youth Services provides case management to youth who have been ordered by the court to be on supervision to the Department of Human Services. The role assists clients in meeting court conditions or personal goals such as securing employment, medical care, mental health services, substance use treatment, or other social services.

Responsibilities

Applies motivational interviewing techniques with youth to assess strengths, risks, and needs; monitors compliance with court orders; communicates with internal and external stakeholders.

Engages the entire family in addressing the needs of the youth.

Adheres to approved social worker principles and the NASW code of ethics; provides services per Wisconsin statutes, court policies, and state or federal guidelines.

Maintains respectful treatment of clients through empathetic and unbiased communication.

Identifies client needs through investigation and assessment; conducts interviews, home visits, and collateral investigations.

Determines and arranges appropriate services based on needs assessments.

Maintains awareness of available resources and explains agency services and client rights.

Demonstrates case management best practices; conducts evaluations; updates service plans; records accurate case information.

Ensures strict record‑keeping and reporting; completes documentation timely; maintains confidentiality; prepares reports and correspondence.

Provides credible testimony in court; reviews case facts beforehand.

Provides Juvenile Court Intake on call coverage during daytime and/or after‑hours as required.

Develops professional knowledge by attending training events, conferences, and workshops.

Establishes effective relationships with internal and external partners; participates in multidisciplinary teams, committees, and task forces.

Performs other related duties as requested.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, psychology, criminal justice, special education, or a related field.

Appointment conditional upon successful criminal and caregiver background checks.

Certified Social Worker or ability to obtain a temporary certificate permitting use of the title “social worker” within two months of hire; obtain full certification and maintain thereafter.

Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and access to private transportation.

Must maintain personal automobile insurance of $100,000 / $300,000.

Benefits Paid Time Off (PTO):

Accrual is based on years of service with the county, starting at 6.4 hours each pay period (20.8 days per year), up to a maximum of 35.75 days per year. Manager PTO accrual available upon request.

Holidays:

Eleven paid holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Spring Holiday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve.

Retirement:

The county provides a retirement account in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS); employees pay one-half of the actuarially required contributions.

Family Medical Leave Act leave is available under county policy.
