Crane Operator

The Crane Operator reports to the Terminal Operations Manager or the Shredder Operations Manager and is responsible for operating hydraulic and/or cable equipment to lift and move materials, machines, and products in multiple directions while complying with company Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
Responsibilities
Strictly adhere to Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards and provide a safe environment for all employees, customers, and visitors.
Operate cranes or other equipment by moving levers, foot pedals, or dials; determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities to prevent overload.
Load or unload bundles from trucks or move material to or from containers using moving equipment.
Take actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions such as other equipment, workers, or moving objects.
Align machines with reference stakes, guidelines, ground, or positioning equipment, following hand or audio signals from crew members.
Coordinate machine actions with other activities, such as positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals.
Inspect crane mechanisms or lifting accessories and report any equipment deficiencies or malfunctions to the proper supervisor.
Perform basic sorting of scrap, metal, and debris in preparation for processing.
Support the Company’s Internal Control process by understanding, communicating, and complying with defined internal controls and suggesting improvements.
Communicate upward any operational problems, noncompliance with the code of conduct, or other policy violations or illegal actions.
Handle multiple safety and maintenance issues, adapting to unpredictable workloads and critical deadlines; extra hours may be required on weekends, weekdays, or holidays.
Physical Activities Required
Operate the crane seat for extended periods up to 60 feet off the ground; stand rarely when walking to and from the worksite.
Lift and carry up to 50 pounds rarely; crouch, bend, stoop, or reach at arm’s length and overhead frequently.
Twist and turn the neck and trunk continually; climb occasionally when entering the crane cab; walk frequently on uneven ground.
Handle and grasp levers and dials continually; maintain continuous leg and foot motion when using pedals.
Communicate by speech and hearing continually; maintain visual acuity for constant observation and scrap inspection.
Demonstrate mental dexterity while working independently with attention to detail and continuous awareness.
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED certification required.
Related training or experience operating different types of cranes preferred.
Valid driver’s license and ability to drive an automobile required.
All U.S. applicants must be 18 years of age or older and all Canada applicants must be 16 years of age or older.
Radius Recycling participates in E‑verify for all U.S. new hires.
