Medical Scribe – General Surgery University of Missouri – Columbia, Division of General Surgery.

Job Description The Department of Surgery at the University of Missouri has an opportunity for medical scribes in the Division of General Surgery. This position will assist with facilitating patient flow and ensuring an accurate and complete medical record for each patient.

Job Duties

Accompany physician and/or APP into the patient examination room and transcribe a history and physical exam, documenting the encounter.

List all diagnoses, symptoms, follow‑up instructions, and prescriptions as dictated.

Transcribe patient orders including laboratory tests, radiology tests, and medications.

Chart provider/patient encounter in real time.

Document any procedures performed.

Support care delivery by assisting with laboratory orders, referrals, and other duties as assigned.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Skillsets

Medical terminology.

Recognition of physical exam process and ability to record exam details.

Computer proficiency and ability to quickly learn new applications.

Legible handwriting and accurate recording of information.

Organizational skills focused on tracking patient care and improving patient flow.

Professional demeanor and respect for patient and family privacy.

Shift Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 4‑hour consecutive shifts.

Minimum Qualifications A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Six (6) months of experience as a medical scribe or related experience and/or training is also required.

Hiring Range $12.83–$20.21 per hour.

Grade & Title Grade: PAT‑3A; University Title: MEDICAL SCRIBE.
