Patrol Officer II
The Patrol Officer II maintains safety, enforces University rules and regulations, and protects life and property within the University community under general supervision. Acts as the first responder to campus emergencies and initiates appropriate emergency response procedures as needed. Responds to reports of policy violations, crimes, suspicious circumstances, and other general calls for service and prepares detailed written reports of activities. Conducts proactive patrol of University buildings, facilities, property, and other assets. Works collaboratively with other University departments and external agencies. Interacts with the Villanova community in a professional, positive manner employing effective community service-oriented techniques. Duties and Responsibilities
Performs preventative patrol and uses judgment to prioritize patrol patterns. Responds to emergency incidents, including medical emergencies, fire alarms, and burglary alarms; assumes control of scenes prior to the arrival of a supervisor or VU police officer. Conducts preliminary investigations of policy violations and/or potential criminal incidents, assesses persons under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and prepares clear initial incident reports. Locks and unlocks buildings and classrooms according to established schedules. Assists members of the University community with access to buildings, vehicle lockouts, jump starts and courtesy transports. Enforces campus parking regulations, checks for valid parking stickers and permits, issues tickets as needed, and alerts supervisors to traffic hazards. Assists in the emergency evacuation of buildings or areas. Staffs special event assignments, including athletic competitions, homecoming and commencement activities; maintains crowd control and provides directions to attendees and staff. Testifies in campus judicial and criminal hearings as required. Acts as an information resource for visitors and community members. Employs effective community service‑oriented techniques, ensuring positive interactions with the Villanova community. Regularly interacts with residence assistants, faculty, staff, and students during normal patrol; shares crime‑prevention information and safety techniques. Attends training and participates in departmental meetings; participates in quality improvement efforts. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent. 21 years of age. At least one year of experience in a security, police, EMS, or fire setting, preferably in a college or university environment; comparable military duties accepted. Valid driver’s license and approval as a University driver under the Motor Vehicle Record Policy. Understanding of written instructions. Excellent report‑writing, keyboarding, computer, and verbal communication skills. Strong problem‑solving, decision‑making, and judgment skills. Ability to interact effectively with diverse members of the University community. Strong service orientation. Preferred Qualifications
Medical Technician preferred. Knowledge of safety and security practices in a college setting. Knowledge of basic investigative techniques. Understanding of emergency response procedures, including first aid & CPR, emergency evacuation procedures, and principles of Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS). Knowledge of emergency medical procedures. Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours
Use of patrol vehicle, computer, fire extinguisher, digital camera, two‑way radio, PC and laptop, AED. Work outdoors and indoors year‑round; exposure to weather, noise, and other conditions. Work extended periods of standing, walking, lifting; willing to work overtime, details, and shift work up to 16 hours per day. Special Message to Applicants
