Teaching faculty provide learning activities and support that lead to course objectives and contribute to the educational environment. Faculty plan, develop, and teach courses in a manner that facilitates student learning. Adjunct faculty are hired part‑time on a semester‑by‑semester basis, contingent upon system needs and student demand, with a maximum of five classes per academic year. Essential Job Functions
Teach Government courses at various times and locations Create engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of material Submit required college reports and forms promptly Use a course syllabus following institutional guidelines Meet with and advise students before or after class, by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods Evaluate students to measure progress and inform them timely of their progress Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community Attend meetings, trainings, and orientations as required Perform other reasonable related duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Mastery of course content Demonstrated leadership skills focusing on collaboration, teamwork, and facilitation Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills Ability to appreciate alternative viewpoints and work effectively with diverse groups Interest in interdisciplinary teaching, service learning, learning technologies, course development, and adult learning methodologies including collaborative learning, learning communities, and distance learning Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional service, and fostering a dynamic climate for lifelong learning Ability to develop and implement instructional approaches such as service learning/civic engagement, learning communities, and effective use of technology Use effective strategies to engage students in their learning Physical Abilities
The work is sedentary; occasional walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, or driving may be required. No special physical demands are necessary. Work Schedule and Conditions
Use of PC workstation, calculator, phone, and general office equipment in a Microsoft Windows environment Interface with internal and external contacts to carry out position functions Work in a climate‑controlled classroom or lab with minimal safety hazards Hours vary by class time; availability outside class is required Required Qualifications
Master's degree in political science/government or equivalent with 18 graduate hours in related courses; JDs and MPAs must have 18 graduate hours in related political science/government courses Salary
