Position Overview This position will provide comprehensive safety coordination to Proterra’s Director Safety and Security and other site leadership team members. You will be responsible for fostering a culture of safety, leading safety training for teammates, designing effective methods of measuring standards in the facility, and conducting safety inspections on a routine basis.
About the Role – You Will
Facilitate site‑specific health and safety management systems designed to reduce employee injuries and illnesses.
Manage Proterra’s training plan/matrix and own all document management to ensure compliance.
Provide oversight and actively participate in the plant emergency response organization, attending meetings, preparing training, coordinating response drills, and practice exercises.
Conduct EHS Gemba Walks, drive 5S compliance, and support all functional departments with safety improvement plans and open action items.
Serve as the single point of accountability for Proterra’s Incident Management System to track and manage all open actions created by safety observations, near‑miss reports, and injuries.
Ensure occupational illnesses and injuries are immediately reported, thoroughly investigated, and promptly addressed in line with established standards.
Recommend, develop, and implement improvements in policies, procedures, and equipment to prevent incidents and injuries.
Establish and maintain key EHS programs within the organization, including but not limited to: Lockout/Tagout, Fall Protection, Powered Industrial Vehicles (PIVs), Arc Flash/High‑Voltage, Cranes/Rigging, Ergonomics, PPE.
Provide support to the plant’s culture of continuous improvement; lead and participate in kaizen workshops to embed EHS thinking in all new standards and procedures developed as a result of continuous improvement.
If needed, provide 24‑hour on‑call response for medical and environmental emergencies; coordinate all facility emergency response and site evacuation programs, including the design and execution of annual drills and management communication.
Inspect facility processes to detect existing or potential environmental, safety, and health hazards, determine corrective or preventive measures, and follow up to ensure measures are implemented.
Establish and maintain comprehensive EHS programs and policies in line with company, local, and federal regulatory requirements.
Conduct risk assessments and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
Coordinate and perform safety training sessions for employees to promote EHS awareness.
Ensure performance measurement systems, performance evaluation systems, and utilization of Lessons Learned and best practices are implemented.

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, establish trust and credibility, and act with complete integrity.
Sound judgment and problem‑solving skills.
Excellent communication skills.
Your Experience Includes
Minimum 3 years’ experience as an EHS Coordinator/ Specialist in a manufacturing environment, or equivalent relevant experience in a related field.
Knowledge of legal repercussions of non‑compliance and strong leadership skills.
Comfort in leveraging multiple software platforms to integrate solutions with existing business platforms.
Excellent organizational and communication skills; proven track record of building and sustaining programs that require use of Microsoft and other technical software platforms.
Adept at conflict resolution and finding consensus in challenging situations.
Physical demands: may work various shifts as needed; may be requested to travel to different locations; lifting up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds; able to walk, stand, crouch, kneel, lift, carry and reach as needed in large and tight spaces; good eye/hand coordination and ability to identify color variations, depth perception, and visually distinct items; manual dexterity with occasional repetitive finger motion; hands‑on position on the production floor as well as time spent in an office environment preparing documents and/or performing training.
Environmental demands: ability to work in a manufacturing environment with extreme heat and cold conditions; wear protective clothing or respiratory protective equipment; work with irritant chemicals, gases, etc.
You Might Also Have
CSP, CIH, CHMM, EIT, OSHA 501, or other technical certification.
Experience in battery manufacturing.
Location : Onsite role in Greer, SC.
