Role description Arcadis is seeking an entry‑level Field Geologist to join our team in Clifton Park, NY. While this position requires both field and office work, the candidate should expect to spend 70% to 90% of their time in the field, with the potential option to shift to more office‑based work over time.
As part of our Resilience Environment team, you’ll help improve quality of life. This full‑time position will be based out of our Clifton Park, NY office and requires a person who is self‑motivated and dedicated to contributing to our success. Key characteristics include attention to detail, a strong work ethic, the ability to work collaboratively, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and willingness to take initiative. Being able to take direction while thinking critically and creatively to guide projects to completion is also vital for success and professional growth.
The successful candidate will be working alongside and supporting task managers, technical experts, and project managers on multiple projects. Arcadis’ performance‑based evaluations provide an opportunity for candidates to advance their career within the company.
Role accountabilities Responsibilities include data/sample collection, site operational support, remedial system operations, and maintenance through field activities, as well as supporting client deliverables and field‑work planning in the office. There may be significant opportunities for travel throughout the Northeast and the United States.
Fieldwork will be a key aspect of this position, with training to oversee drilling for soil sampling and groundwater well installation, groundwater sampling, subcontractor oversight, operation and maintenance of remediation systems, vapor intrusion/soil gas surveys, and other tasks. Health and safety is a priority.
Core duties include:
Prepare subcontracts and oversee subcontractor work.
Write and prepare technical reports, work plans, letters, and memoranda.
Complete office work including data compilation and interpretation, health & safety plan preparation, regulatory file reviews, and task planning/coordination with vendors, laboratories, contractors, and coworkers.
Conduct fieldwork including soil, groundwater, and/or vapor sampling and contractor oversight. Field work will require regional business travel for 2‑3 days per week on average, with increased travel during the second half of the year. Occasional extended trips within the U.S. may occur.
Additional responsibilities may evolve as you grow your career. The role involves interpreting and evaluating field and analytical data to prepare site characterization reports, remedial investigation reports, engineering designs, permit applications, and construction‑related documents.
Fieldwork may involve environmental media impacted with hazardous substances, and Arcadis provides substantial health and safety training, support, and mentoring.
Qualifications & Experience Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science (BS) in geology, related discipline, or equivalent experience.
0‑2 years of related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Geology or related field.
Current OSHA HAZWOPER 40‑hour or 8‑hour refresher.
