Who We Are Since its founding in 2010, Challenge Preparatory Charter School (Challenge Prep) has provided students and families with a successful academic program in Far Rockaway, Queens. We currently serve over 1,200 scholars from Kindergarten to 12th grade across 3 sites. Our mission is to prepare students from the greater Far Rockaway community to excel academically, demonstrate mastery of the NY State Learning Standards, and achieve their career aspirations. Challenge cultivates and supports intellectual, aesthetic, social, emotional, and ethical development, preparing students to be responsible 21st‑century citizens. We offer a rigorous instructional program in a safe, supportive, technology‑infused, data‑enriched, and social‑emotional learning sequence, authentic field experiences, career counseling, and college coursework.

Understanding the Role Every member of the Instructional Team plays a critical role in ensuring students have the skills and confidence to pursue their paths. As a General Education Teacher, you will deliver exceptional instruction, assess scholar growth, and proactively support the school and team. This position reports to the principal.

Overall Job Goals And Responsibilities

Teach students the values of scholarship, respect, honesty, courage, and balance in a collaborative, technology‑infused, inclusive, family‑like environment. Assist all scholars in their content area classes to reach their full potential by focusing on individual aspirations and strengths.

Plan for students of all ability levels, including English Language Learners and students with disabilities, to achieve academic mastery.

Participate in after‑school and/or Saturday tutoring, sports, enrichment, arts, and family programs.

Contribute to in‑house committees for special programs.

Engage in professional development: inquiry work, intervisitations, common planning, and collaborative conversation.

Collaborate with colleagues to write unit plans and interim assessments; share teaching strategies, visit peer classrooms, analyze student data, and develop best‑practice pedagogy that supports literacy and critical‑thinking skills across all subject areas.

Provide ample social‑emotional support in and out of the classroom.

Use collaborative team‑teaching models for ELL students and special‑needs students.

Apply data from formative and summative assessments to guide instructional planning.

Develop an individual growth plan, including professional goals and objectives in collaboration with the Principal and/or Assistant Principal.

Utilize technology, including a parent/student portal and school website, to provide regular written updates and grades.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required.

Master's degree preferred.

NYS certification preferred.

Highly motivated to teach students from underserved areas and devoted to closing the achievement gap.

Teaching experience in an urban school setting preferred.

Create engaging learning environments for students of all academic levels.

Maintain strong teamwork ethic.

Utilize data to drive instruction.

Work Year Full‑time position begins in mid‑August and goes through the end of June.
