Job Summary
Police Officer (Full‑Time) – City of Statesville Police Department
Salary: $23.33–$38.49 hourly ($50,952.72–$84,062.16 annually). FLSA: Non‑Exempt. Work Schedule: 12‑hour shifts, permanent days or permanent nights. Closing Date: January 5, 2026.
Pay Incentives
Starting pay based on relevant experience.
5% increase after 6‑month probation.
Educational incentives (3% per degree level up to 9%).
Shift differentials: $2.00/hr for night shift (6 PM–6 AM), $1.00/hr for mid shift (Noon–Midnight).
Specialized Unit incentive 5% while assigned.
Intermediate & Advance certifications up to 6%.
Bilingual incentive 5%.
Take‑home vehicles up to 30 miles from city limits.
Holiday overtime: 1.5× regular rate, paid in the same pay period where holiday falls.
Key Responsibilities
Operate patrol vehicle, observe violations, respond in enforcement action.
Assist in crime scene processing, investigations, follow‑up.
Conduct field testing of controlled substances.
Act as field training officer, train, evaluate, supervise recruits.
Monitor and operate radio; dispatch officers; monitor public service and 911.
Execute arrests, use restraints and self‑defense maneuvers as necessary.
Prepare investigative reports, sketches, and other documentation.
Use independent judgement on reasonable suspicion, probable cause, and force.
Operate law enforcement vehicle in emergency and hazardous conditions.
Gather information through interviews of victims, witnesses, suspects, etc.
Pursue fleeing suspects and perform rescues.
Load, unload, aim, and fire firearms following certification standards.
Collect and preserve evidence and substances.
May be assigned to K‑9, Traffic, SRT, CID, community policing, or other units.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma or GED.
Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Certification.
U.S. citizen, at least 20 years old.
Valid North Carolina driver’s license, or ability to obtain one within 60 days.
Must meet and maintain training qualifications.
Must meet physical standards and pass medical, drug, and psychological screening.
Law Enforcement Eligibility Every officer must be:
Citizen of the United States.
At least 20 years of age.
High school graduate or GED.
Good moral character.
Completed BLET, passed state exam.
Not have felony convictions, or other disqualifying offenses as listed.
Interviewed personally by department head.
Fingerprint and background check completed.
Physically and medically cleared.
Psychological screen and firearms training completed.
Notify Standards Division of all criminal offenses.
