Senior Accountant - Law Firm - Boston, MA
We are seeking candidates for a hands‑on Senior Accountant position with a prestigious law firm located in Boston, MA. The role will oversee core accounting functions including financial reporting, billing, accounts payable, and process improvement. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a professional services environment.
This is a 2.5‑month contract position that will pay $60‑65/hr (depending on experience). The position is required to be onsite 4 days per week in the Boston office.
Responsibilities
Prepare monthly and annual financial statements, including multiple iterations of P&L, balance sheet, cash flow statements, and detailed variance analyses.
Lead, supervise, and mentor Accounts Payable, Billing, and Accounting team members.
Drive process improvements across accounting operations by providing guidance, structure, and oversight.
Delegate accounting, AP, and billing tasks to junior staff while ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Perform daily cash analysis and reporting to support leadership decision‑making.
Reconcile Operating, IOLTA, and petty cash accounts on a monthly basis.
Develop annual cash flow projections.
Partner with the Controller on the annual budgeting process, assuming primary ownership of the revenue budget.
Produce and maintain bi‑weekly AR and WIP reports for the Board of Directors.
Prepare key performance and financial metrics for the monthly reporting package, including timekeeper rate, time‑cut analysis, payor contract reviews, and origination and profitability reporting.
Ensure accounting and billing activities comply with applicable regulations and internal policies.
Establish and maintain internal controls, month‑end close timelines, and standardized accounting procedures.
Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors and coordinate all phases of the annual audit.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred but not required)
5–7+ years of accounting experience, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment
Hands‑on experience with legal accounting and billing systems, including Elite 3E, Aderant, and/or ProLaw
Proficiency in Elite 3E is strongly preferred
Strong knowledge of GAAP, budgeting, and financial analysis
Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline‑driven environment.
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
