Responsibilities

Represent the county in child welfare (Dependency and Neglect) cases in Boulder District Court, including drafting motions, conducting discovery, negotiating, preparing for hearings and trials, and handling records requests and subpoenas.

Handle child support proceedings, advising county staff, preparing for court, enforcing orders through contempt actions and other remedies, addressing paternity issues, and ensuring compliance with state guidelines.

Represent the county in recovery of overpayment of welfare benefits, advising staff, pursuing administrative or judicial actions, and coordinating with state agencies.

Assist with additional duties in the Children and Families Services Division, such as delinquency, adult protection, drug court, appeals, and records management as directed by the principal attorney.

Collaborate with attorneys experienced in child welfare, child support, and benefits law to support the hired attorney.

Qualifications

JD degree and license to practice law in Colorado.

Minimum of two years of experience as a practicing attorney (Assistant County Attorney II); prior law clerk experience may be considered.

Drive to learn new practice areas; strong client relationship skills.

Effective collaboration in a team-based environment.

Strong research, writing, organization, presentation, time‑management, and analytical skills.

Preferred experience (not required): child welfare law, child support law, benefits or administrative law, and litigation or court proceedings.

Position Details The position is full‑time, Monday‑Friday, generally 7:30 am‑5:30 pm. Hybrid work is allowed up to three days per week; in‑person attendance for meetings and hearings is required. The role is exempt under FLSA guidelines. Employees must reside in Colorado as of the first day of employment.
