Save Job

Job Summary As a highly motivated, enthusiastic contributor, you will work with the Talkowski Laboratory in the Center for Genomic Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. Your primary role is to detect, annotate, and characterize genetic variants in large cohorts of patients with autism and other neuropsychiatric conditions. You will process incoming sequencing datasets through established pipelines, develop new analysis workflows, and communicate results across subteams. The position is hybrid, offering flexible remote working hours.

Essential Functions

Serve as a member of the team analyzing sequencing data for the Autism Sequencing Consortium, aiding in calling and annotating variants and developing association frameworks.

Perform complex data acquisition, storage, cleaning, and pre‑processing.

Apply advanced quantitative statistical analysis methods and disseminate results via presentations and publications.

Process blended genome exome (BGE) datasets from neuropsychiatric cohorts, call copy‑number variants, conduct QC, and generate reports.

Collaborate with the methods development team to develop, improve, standardize, and distribute new and existing methods, ensuring progress across subteams.

Provide collaborative bioinformatics analysis to support other research projects.

Track and communicate progress to internal and external stakeholders through meetings, Slack, and reports.

Independently design and execute bioinformatics analyses for small‐mid scale projects.

Develop and optimize data analysis pipelines and workflows.

Collaborate with scientists to define analysis goals, interpret results, and analyze data quality and integrity.

Develop new tools to enhance quality assurance review and improve assay and system performance.

Design and apply novel computational methods/bioinformatics algorithms, machine learning models, and analysis tools for genetic data interpretation.

Analyze large molecular tumor sequencing datasets, troubleshoot problems, recommend technology solutions, and determine computational strategies.

Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Computational Biology preferred; Bachelor’s Degree in Computational Biology required.

3‑5 years of computational sciences experience required.

Advanced skillset in computational biology, bioinformatics, statistics, or genomics.

Advanced knowledge of statistical association analyses and approaches in genomics studies.

Experience with cloud computing and workflow management systems; experience with Terra, WDL, and Google Cloud is a plus.

Proficient in Python, R, Unix/Linux, and other scripting languages.

Proven ability to learn new computational tools and packages.

Strong foundations in statistics and ability to work independently and in a team.
