Purpose The Mechanical Engineer provides the necessary expertise and support to accomplish the plant's objectives in the safest, economical and technically feasible manner. This position reports directly to the Engineering & Maintenance Manager and is responsible for providing engineering services to optimize equipment life and plant profitability.

Key Objectives and Responsibilities

Ensure all work is performed safely and in accordance with all Calumet procedures and specifications

Responsible for P&ID updates, revisions, and drafting to support Calumet site needs

Participate in reliability efforts by providing technical assistance in resolving equipment design, operation, and maintenance problems

Responsible for developing Maintenance Department procedures

Assist the Maintenance Department in the development of Preventative Maintenance (PM) plans

Advise engineering on new capital designs and installations to ensure that equipment reliability, operability, and maintainability are preserved

Review equipment specifications and standards and develop recommendations for reliability improvement

Assist in projects to support overall plant reliability

Assist project engineers in estimate costs for projects

Support Turnaround planning and implementation when needed

Work with Corporate Reliability Engineer to improve the reliability tools and methods utilized in increasing plant reliability

Assist in spare parts review for ensuring equipment maintainability and availability

Monitoring and monthly KPI reporting on mechanical integrity stats

Resolve assigned open PSM action items assigned by designated due date

Participate in audits to measure the effectiveness of reliability related activities such as equipment repairs, part quality, and failure investigation processes

Collaborate with other Calumet departments and sites for resource knowledge

Other activities assigned by the Calumet management team

Required Education/Experiences

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or 8 years technical experience with rotating and/or fixed equipment

Proficiency with standard office programs (Microsoft Suite of tools)

Flexible and willing to work shifts as needed - including overtime and nights/weekend callouts.

Preferred Education/Experiences

5+ years' experience in a Refining, Chemical, or related Industrial field is preferred

PE certification in related engineering field

CAD software training or certification

Competencies

Knowledge of API 510, API 570 and API 653 Standards and API & ASME codes

Experience in risk-based assessment, fit for duty and end-of-life assessments a plus

Understanding of rotating equipment and equipment optimization is a plus

Corrosion/material knowledge is highly desirable

Working knowledge of functions and design/operation of plant rotating and fixed equipment, process and products; methods development and procedures; repair maintenance of rotating and fixed equipment

Ability to create, modify, and edit CAD files including P&IDs, PFD, and design documentation

Able to clearly execute drafting changes using contractor labor for P&ID changes

Background in performing root cause failure analyses, developing corrective action plans

Ability to manage multiple activities and prioritize tasks with minimal direction or oversight

Plant safety experience/training regarding refinery or similar operations including but not limited to: confined space, lock out tag out, hot work, safe work permits, personal protective equipment,

Excellent communication skills, including oral, written, and electronic.

Demonstrated proficiency in PC Workstation, Windows, and SAP knowledge is a plus.
