The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is looking for a
Diesel Mechanic III
to support Facilities Operations & Maintenance (O&M) for our government customer located in
NORCO, California .
The Diesel Mechanic III will perform a variety of work related to the operation and maintenance of transportation vehicles and a variety of other related equipment. Ensures timely and efficient accomplishment of assigned duties; and prepares and maintains reports and records related to work assignments.
Responsibilities
Perform maintenance, repair, overhaul and replacement of parts for all types of equipment including vehicles, emergency generators, electric golf carts, fork trucks, boom lifts, air compressors and other related equipment.
Must possess the proper licenses and certifications to operate all types of vehicles and heavy‑duty equipment.
Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
Perform diagnostic testing for all types of equipment including emergency generators, vehicles, electric golf carts, fork trucks, boom lifts and air compressors.
Maintain an inventory of critical spares necessary for the repairs of all equipment identified within this job description.
Knowledgeable in operating principles of gasoline and diesel‑powered equipment and associated electrical systems, electronics controls, hydraulics, brake systems and drive train components.
Work closely with the Facilities Supervisor/Production Controller and coordinate with other activities to ensure quality and timely accomplishment of assigned duties.
Inspect and maintain all required electrical PPE daily and report all discrepancies to Safety Specialist immediately in writing.
Identify unsafe working conditions and work practices and report to Safety Specialist immediately in writing.
Provide guidance, orientation and training to newly assigned employees.
Assume responsibility for the care of government equipment, tools, property and materials and ensure they are properly maintained and safeguarded.
Performs specific tasks in accordance with verbal and/or written instructions and observes safety, fire, health and work rules.
Prepare shop repair orders and research and identify parts from catalogs.
Establish and document a formal inventory system for all critical and spare parts.
Highly skilled in the use of hand/power tools and test equipment commonly used in the mechanical (diesel and gas engine repair) trades.
Keep the PM and Facilities Supervisor apprised of unique situations and problems encountered.
Ensure proper housekeeping practices are strictly observed.
Assist other trades as required to accomplish maintenance activities.
Respond to all types of emergency situations, water, electrical, wind, storm etc.
Utilize personnel protective equipment (PPE) when required.
Assist in performing monthly safety inspections as required.
Complete required monthly safety and equipment training.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the PM and Facilities Supervisor/Production Controller.
Required Degree/Education/Certification
High school diploma or equivalent.
OSHA 10 certification.
Preferred: A.S. Degree or completion of a 2‑Year Technical or Trade School or equivalent.
Required Skills and Experience
Five (5) years specific work experience in gasoline and diesel engine testing and repair.
ASE certified in electronic engine diagnosis.
Possess or be able to obtain a Class A CDL license.
Demonstrated ability to perform formal training or substitute training as required.
Demonstrated knowledge and ability to operate all types of welding equipment.
Demonstrated knowledge and ability to operate all types of tire changing and wheel balancing equipment.
Must be available and able to respond to emergency call‑ins when required.
Must pass an annual “Fit for Duty” physical and meet all the necessary medical requirements to wear all types of respirators and perform the physical requirements of the job.
Must pass the required respirator fit test and maintain the requirement.
Must be physically able to climb all types of ladders, a‑frame, vertical, extension etc.
Must be physically able to climb up on and maneuver on raised walkways and platforms with limited access.
Must be able to work in various types of confined spaces.
May be assigned other collateral duties as required.
Environmental Factors Works in indoor and outdoor environments that contain excessive heat, cold and humidity, excessive dampness, electrical energy, dust, fumes, solvents, grease, oils, moving machinery with moving parts, moving object or vehicles and slippery or uneven surfaces.
Physical Effort Works from ground level, ladders, and platforms on equipment and systems where parts are hard‑to‑reach. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to fifty pounds and occasionally over fifty pounds. Standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and stretching for prolonged periods will be necessary.
Desired Skills and Experience
Seven (7) years specific work experience in gasoline and diesel engine testing and repair.
Experience in the operation and repair of cranes and heavy equipment.
Required Citizenship and Clearance
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
