Benefits Practice Leader
This role oversees strategy, production, carrier relationships, service delivery, compliance, and revenue growth for all group benefits lines in Houston, Texas. The leader acts as a subject‑matter expert and serves as a key advisor to clients, internal teams, and executive leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Growth
Develop and execute the long‑term strategic plan for the Benefits practice.
Define target markets, prospecting initiatives, growth goals, and profitability metrics.
Identify cross‑sell opportunities with property & casualty, life, and voluntary benefits units.
Lead new product development, innovation, and competitive differentiation.
Client & Producer Support
Serve as the senior advisor for complex benefits programs (medical, dental, vision, life, disability, HSAs/FSAs/HRAs, stop‑loss, self‑funded plans, etc.).
Support producers with strategy, presentation materials, client renewals, and major account negotiations.
Handle escalated client issues and maintain retention targets.
Operational Excellence
Oversee benefits service teams, including account managers, analysts, and enrollment support.
Standardize workflow, renewal timelines, compliance processes, and service‑level expectations.
Implement benefits administration and HR technology solutions where applicable.
Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
Ensure the practice remains compliant with ACA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, and state‑specific regulations.
Provide guidance to clients on legislative changes and compliance risks.
Maintain documentation standards and audit readiness.
Required Qualifications
5–10+ years of experience in employee benefits consulting, brokerage, or carrier leadership.
Strong knowledge of group health, ancillary benefits, funding strategies, underwriting, and compliance.
Proven ability to manage teams, lead growth, and develop high‑performance producer units.
Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
State Life & Health insurance license required.
Experience leading a benefits division within an insurance agency or aggregator.
Strong carrier relationships and familiarity with regional market dynamics.
Background in self‑funded plans, stop‑loss underwriting, and advanced funding strategies.
Experience with HRIS/benefits admin systems (Ease, Employee Navigator, etc.).
Success Metrics
Practice revenue growth and profitability.
Client retention and satisfaction.
Strength of carrier partnerships and compensation improvements.
Producer adoption and cross‑sell performance.

Base pay range: $100,000.00‑$150,000.00 per year.
