Resident Services Specialist - 2nd Shift 3:00pm-11:00pm

The Resident Services Specialist will be responsible for the safety and security of the residents and premises of the Emergency Shelter.

Qualifications

Required:

Mature, responsible individual with experience in social services or health care; excellent crisis management, listening, verbal and written communication, maintaining professional and personal boundaries, conflict resolution and basic computer skills; willing to work the 3:00pm-11:00pm shift; reliable transportation required.

Preferred:

Demonstrated knowledge of community resources and issues affecting individuals experiencing homelessness; knowledge of emergency medical procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities Security Duties

Maintain safety and security of residents and facility.

Complete hourly building checks (doors, rooms, alarms, emergency exits, etc.) and document completion.

Maintain an active presence with required house, dining, playroom, teen room checks and building walkthroughs.

Intervene, as necessary, to protect residents from harming others or themselves.

Ensure outside individuals have permission to be on property and document visitors in the log.

Understand emergency procedures (fire evacuation, gas/electricity shut‑off, power failure protocol, etc.).

Distribute incoming mail according to agency policy.

Keep staff workspace clean and organized.

Remain at post until relieved; brief incoming staff on pertinent information; assist in coverage.

De‑escalate potentially volatile situations between residents.

Maintain telephone coverage and monitor security cameras.

Interact professionally with residents, employees, visitors and guests.

Follow all agency policy and procedures.

Document all shelter activities in the log and adhere to the employee handbook and departmental procedure manuals.

Be open‑minded to workplace change.

Resident Services Specialist Duties

Supervise residents during shift and enforce resident handbook regulations.

Assist residents in adjusting to their stay and direct them to appropriate support staff.

Manage residents’ activities: daily chores, sign‑ins/out, meal times, play/teen rooms; ensure punctuality and curfew compliance.

Read and initial shift reports and daily logs; complete all required paperwork.

Maintain confidentiality of resident files and logs.

Verify resident records for employment, curfew extensions, twelve‑step meetings, house restrictions, etc.

Comply with OTC medication and lock‑box procedures.

Monitor resident phone usage.

Maintain resident property and storage; inventory, pack, and secure property as needed.

Perform additional duties as assigned (e.g., resume preparation, welcome meetings).

Attend scheduled staff meetings.

Carry out all other duties assigned by a supervisor.

Complete scanning, shredding, office and bathroom cleaning, laundry and breakfast setup/cleanup for third shift.

Monitor dining room during meal times.

Ensure all paperwork is completed before ending shift.

Physical Requirements

Occasional need to climb stairs while carrying items up to 25 lbs.

Must remain stationary during shift.

Move items up to 25 lbs.

Move throughout the building multiple times a day.

Occasional bending, twisting, kneeling, reaching.

Must pass physical and written certification training for CPR.
