Land Surveyor I

Responsibilities
Work with a Survey Crew Chief or Land Surveyor to perform land surveying services including plane and/or geodetic surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way, and control survey projects.
Gather field survey data using conventional surveying techniques and GPS methods.
Prepare accurate field notes, drawings, and records of changes in conditions while in the field.
Assist with construction observation duties on civil engineering projects.
Secure a UAS Part 107 License to operate a drone/UAS aircraft, if required.
Learn and follow surveying methods and standards required by state and public agencies.
Participate in pre‑survey planning meetings with project managers and engineers, providing updates and progress during all phases of projects.
Execute responsibilities with initiative, independent judgment, and effective communication with contractors, engineering staff, and project owner representatives.
Adhere to company safety policies and employee handbook.
Work independently or as part of a team; travel and overnight stays may be required, and overtime during construction season may be necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Associate’s Degree in Engineering Technology or Land Surveying highly desirable; applicable experience may be accepted.
At least 1 year of experience in topographic and highway/roadway construction staking.
Ability to pursue and achieve Certified Survey Technician (CST) Level I and II field track.
Familiar with operating GPS, robotic, and total station survey equipment.
Knowledge of survey data collection and construction survey methods.
Experience with CADD programs such as AutoCAD/Civil‑3D or Microstation/GeoPak software considered a plus.
Perform simple surveying calculations using engineering calculator, laptop computer, and coordinate geometry software.
Knowledge of Microsoft Windows/Office products required.
Valid driver’s license required or ability to obtain one.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and detail‑orientation skills; self‑motivation and teamwork required.
Physical Requirements
Operate a computer under normal ergonomic office conditions.
Work in outdoor construction environments; close proximity to traffic, noise, and dust.
Continual standing and walking; occasional use of hand tools to clear vegetation, dig holes, shovel snow, and pound stakes.
Lift 50–75 pounds; perform required hours.
