Base pay range $76.00/hr - $82.00/hr
Job Summary State and federal contractor looking for a Heavy Civil Equipment Operator. Individuals need to be experienced operating excavators, loaders, backhoes and similar. Individuals must be a punctual, dependable, self‑motivated, team player with a strong awareness of safety. Individuals must be willing to cross trades when needed. Typical work environments include all types of marine and industrial worksites such as dry docks, piers, wharfs and waterfront building structures on Naval Facilities and other state and federal sites. The initial need for this position would support ongoing and upcoming projects at NBK Bremerton, NBK Bangor, Indian Island Ammo Wharf and Manchester Fuel Depot.
Key Responsibilities
Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, bulldozers, and other machinery safely and efficiently.
Conduct daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance to ensure safe operation.
Work in coordination with site supervisors and crew members to complete construction tasks on schedule.
Follow all safety protocols and procedures at all times.
Assist with non‑operator duties such as site cleanup, material handling, and manual labor when needed.
Work in varied conditions, including low light and wet environments.
Lift up to 75 lbs. repeatedly as part of daily duties.
Maintain flexibility to work early mornings, nights, weekends, or extended hours based on project needs.
Minimum Qualifications
Lift 75 pounds repeatedly
Valid Equipment Operator Certifications.
Valid Driver License ***
Ability to pass drug screening (at time of hire and randomly while employed)
Access to a federal military installation requires a REAL ID‑compliant driver’s license or an acceptable alternative, such as a U.S. passport or military ID, in accordance with the REAL ID Act. Please visit this website for more information: https://www.dhs.gov/real-id.
Skills
Must be able to remain alert and focused for extended periods during equipment operation.
Good communication: regular interaction with supervisors, crew members, and safety personnel is expected to ensure safe and productive worksite conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience on federal or military construction sites.
OSHA 10 or 30 certification.
Working Conditions Work is performed primarily outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, and humidity. Exposure to loud noise levels from equipment and machinery; hearing protection may be required. Work may take place on uneven, muddy, or rough terrain. Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, and stooping required throughout the shift. May be required to work at heights or in confined spaces depending on jobsite requirements. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory, and may include hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, high‑visibility clothing, and toe‑protection boots. Potential exposure to dust, fumes, and other airborne particles.
Salary Range Davis‑Bacon wages are the local prevailing wages required for mechanics and laborers on federal or federally assisted construction projects. The actual amount is contractual: $76/hr to $82/hr.
