ABOUT THE POSITION The County Administrator provides centralized leadership, organizational coordination, policy implementation, personnel oversight, and key administrative support to the County Board.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Cultivate and engage a positive working relationship with Department Heads and employees (incomplete).
Engage in honest and open two‑way communications with board members, Department Heads, and employees (incomplete).
Maintain the quality public service provision while seeking alternative revenue sources for the County (incomplete).
Implement Board policies, directives, ordinances, and long‑range goals (incomplete).
Provide leadership and support to department heads through collaboration, communication, and accountability (incomplete).
Oversee countywide personnel administration, labor negotiations, and organizational policy development (incomplete).
Manage and monitor departmental budgets, the County Administrator’s budget, and capital improvement planning (incomplete).
Lead Data Practices compliance and ensure proper handling of data requests (incomplete).
Support economic development, housing expansion, and inter‑agency partnerships (incomplete).
Represent Wadena County to regional, state, and federal partners (incomplete).
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business, or related field.
At least three years of government‑related experience with supervisory duties.
Experience managing departmental operations, budgets, and personnel.
Valid Minnesota Driver’s License.
PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
County government experience in Minnesota.
Advanced degree in Public Administration or related field.
Experience with rural county operations, zoning, economic development, and Data Practices compliance.
Experience leading organizational change and working with elected officials.
Residency expectation: The selected candidate should reside within a reasonable commuting distance of Wadena County, though residency within the county itself is not required.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Compensation: $140,000‑$160,000 per year.
Health Benefits: Wadena County provides comprehensive medical coverage through Medica, including standard health, prescription, and wellness benefits.
Paid Leave: Leave and PTO are negotiable and structured in accordance with County policy.
Retirement: Employees participate in the PERA Coordinated Plan; Employee Contribution: 6.5%, Employer Contribution: 7.5%.
