Economic Development Coordinator The Economic Development Coordinator supports the mission of the Cedar City & Iron County Office of Economic Development by advancing business attraction, retention, expansion, and workforce development initiatives. This mid-level role works directly with local businesses, community partners, state agencies, and site selectors to strengthen Iron County’s economic base and promote Cedar City as a premier place to live, work, and invest. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail‑oriented, able to manage multiple projects, and passionate about growing the local economy while supporting the community’s long‑term prosperity.

Reporting Relationships Reports directly to the Economic Development Director.

Example of Duties Business Attraction & Economic Development Support

Support downtown, retail, industrial, and other economic development initiatives.

Assist with business recruitment and retention efforts by helping respond to inquiries and coordinating follow‑up.

Assist with responding to Requests for Information (RFIs) from site selectors, the State of Utah, and prospective companies.

Develop marketing materials, presentations, and digital content.

Support trade shows, recruitment events, and site tours.

Maintain and update the department website and social media.

Research, Data & Reporting

Conduct research and analysis to support strategic planning and project decisions.

Prepare reports, dashboards, and briefings.

Maintain databases, CRM systems, and departmental records.

Community Coordination & Partnerships

Coordinate meetings with businesses, regional agencies and community partners.

Maintain accurate records of business engagement activities and follow‑up actions.

Support planning and implementation of economic development events.

Grant writing and managing timelines, deliverables, performance metrics, and reports.

Support administration of department initiatives, projects, and grant programs.

Administrative

Serve as recorder for department committee and board meetings.

Organize and prepare materials for meetings.

Manage scheduling, travel, and organized filing systems for project materials.

Track and reconcile department budget and expenses.

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge of public relations, customer service, economic development basics, office practices, website management, data analysis.

Skills in communication, writing, problem solving, presentation creation, and use of Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and CRM databases.

Ability to build relationships, communicate effectively, multitask, learn new technologies, and collaborate in a team.

Experience and Education

Bachelor’s degree required in business, entrepreneurship, economics, public relations, marketing, communications, administration, or other related fields.

Two years of administrative, communications, community engagement, or economic development experience.

Special Requirements

Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Utah driver's license.

Working Conditions

Physical Demands: While performing duties of job, employee typically handles office equipment, objects or controls; may periodically bend, stoop or crouch; and frequently communicates with others. Employee will sit or stand for long periods of time and may occasionally move up to 20 pounds.

Work Environment: Employee will work in a generally comfortable office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal. Great mental effort is required daily; capacity to be a self‑starter. moderate exposure to stressful situations due to interaction levels with the public and exposure to deadlines; occasional overtime; occasional evening and weekend work to attend meetings and meet deadlines; regular attendance is required; occasional field work.

Location: Cedar City, UT. Salary: $50,641.00 – $76,215.00.
