Slate Auto
About Slate
At Slate, we’re building safe, reliable vehicles that people can afford, personalize and love—and doing it here in the USA as part of our commitment to reindustrialization. The spirit of DIY and customization runs throughout every element of a Slate, because people should have control over how their trucks look, feel, and represent them.
Who We Are Looking For Slate’s Electrical Engineering group is seeking a passionate and dynamic
Systems Engineer, ADAS / FCM
with hands‑on experience designing features and decomposing system requirements for perception-based automotive components. This individual will work cross‑functionally across the engineering organization and help bridge the gap between ADAS systems, perception technologies, and Electrical Engineering teams.
The Systems Engineer, ADAS / FCM will author, design, and develop system requirements for the Front Camera Module (FCM) and its role within the vehicle’s ADAS architecture, with a strong emphasis on system behavior, diagnostics, and integration. This includes supporting fundamental ADAS capabilities that improve vehicle safety, provide driver‑assistant functionality, and meet applicable regulatory and industry safety standards.
What You Get To Do
Support and/or lead system design for the Front Camera Module (FCM), including architecture, signal interfaces, system behavior definitions, and diagnostic strategies.
Support system integration activities for the FCM and its communication with other vehicle domains.
Define and author diagnostic procedures and content to safely detect, report, and address camera‑related faults.
Collaborate with stakeholders to develop system requirements for ADAS features and functions assigned to the FCM.
Troubleshoot system feature performance issues using engineering tools, logs, perception outputs, and network communication traces; partner with validation teams on root‑cause investigations.
Perform root cause analysis using CAN, Automotive Ethernet, and perception debugging tools.
Utilize engineering processes and tools to develop, integrate, and validate camera hardware and software in collaboration with suppliers and internal teams.
What You Bring To The Team
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or equivalent from an ABET‑accredited program.
Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, Machine Vision, or equivalent is preferred.
5+ years of experience in automotive electrical systems engineering within ADAS, perception, or sensor‑based technologies.
3+ years of experience in systems development and requirements authoring, including experience with configuration management tools such as Polarion, JIRA, DOORS, Bitbucket, IBM‑RTC, etc.
3+ years of experience in fault management, fault mitigation strategies, and maintaining diagnostic content for embedded systems.
3+ years of experience with CAN FD and LIN communication protocols and standards such as ISO‑14229 and ISO‑26262.
Experience with automotive diagnostic and calibration tools such as ETAS INCA, CANape, CANalyzer, CANoe, or perception debugging suites.
Functional experience with industry standards and regulatory requirements such as FMVSS, NHTSA, DOT, USCAR, SAE, NEC, etc.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams to achieve common goals.
Highly adaptable and proactive, excelling in fast‑paced start‑up and new model launch environments.
