Responsibilities The Tax Experienced Associate, Core Tax Services is responsible for utilizing their educational background as well as communication and organizational skills by assisting with the preparation of tax returns and research. In this role, the Associate will be charged with utilizing basic research skills and working with tax software applications to complete simple tax returns for review.

Tax Compliance:

Ensure clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and ensure all Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (“TQM”) are followed.

Apply understanding of client’s unique circumstances and prepare required filings using a system of review and documentation to ensure compliance and low tax burden.

Collect all necessary data, identify missing items, and communicate them to the client.

Use Firm compliance software to maximize efficiency.

Team up with Senior on project completion, including follow‑up on open items list.

Document all significant tax positions.

ASC 740 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals:

Apply Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48.

Assist with the preparation and/or review of income tax provisions.

Tax Consulting:

Assist with developing, recommending, and implementing methods to maximize client benefits and reduce current and future taxes.

Apply knowledge of home state corporate, partnership, and individual tax structure and filing requirements in completing assigned work.

Draft clear and concise general memorandums and correspondence.

Identify potentially relevant tax issues or opportunities as part of the tax compliance process.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics or statistics OR a bachelor’s degree in another focus area and CPA certification required (or authorization to test for the CPA exam, or equivalent documentation, prior to start date in your state of employment).

Master’s in accountancy or taxation preferred.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Solid oral and written communication skills.

Able to follow instructions from Team members.

Able to prepare simple tax returns.

Takes appropriate actions without being asked.

Seeks advice from superiors regarding compliance issues and problems.

Experience

One (1) or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience preferred.

License/Certifications

CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) preferred.

Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role preferred.

Software

Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite preferred.

Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software preferred.

Salary California: $80,000 - $88,000. Colorado: $71,500 - $72,000. Illinois: $74,000 - $80,000. Maryland: $85,500 - $88,000. Massachusetts: $86,500 - $89,000. Minnesota: $72,000 - $78,000. New Jersey: $77,000 - $92,000. NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $93,000 - $95,000. Washington: $71,400 - $83,400. Washington DC: $86,000 - $90,000.
