Combination Inspector - Building Division

Responsible for ensuring compliance with county and building codes in residential and commercial construction projects, remodels, and repairs. Key responsibilities include conducting inspections at critical stages to verify adherence to these standards, preparing detailed reports, maintaining accurate records, and communicating effectively with contractors, property owners, and relevant professionals to facilitate necessary corrections or obtain required approvals.

Independently travels to conduct assessments of residential and commercial construction projects, ensuring that all trade activities performed under County permits comply with applicable building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing codes, as well as local ordinances and regulations. Responsibilities include approving compliant work, identifying and requesting corrections for any deficiencies, and collaborating with various departments, agencies, and utility providers to coordinate inspection efforts and ensure adherence to the highest construction standards.
Reviews construction plans and engineering calculations for structural and architectural elements to understand projects, verify compliance with relevant codes, and suggest appropriate methods for compliance. Ensures that project details meet regulatory and safety standards prior to inspections.
Engages with developers and builders involved in commercial and residential construction and inspection projects; assesses practices, identifies issues, and proposes improvements.
Maintains and updates inspection records, project documentation, and department files.
Performs additional tasks as assigned, including filling in for other staff as necessary and/or required.
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or GED Equivalency
required
Associate's Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Science, and Technology
preferred
Technical or Vocational School in Construction Management, Architecture and Engineering disciplines, including Civil, Structural, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering, as well as Building Science and Technology
preferred
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of two (2) years or more conducting field inspections on residential and commercial projects, along with comparable assignments
required
LICENSES:
Valid Driver's License upon the date of hire AND a valid Colorado Driver's License obtained within 60 days of hire
required
Journeyman, Master Plumber, or Electrician License from Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA)
preferred
CERTIFICATES:
Residential and Commercial Building Inspector Certificate from ICC - International Code Council, current or obtain within 6 months of hire
required
Plumbing and Mechanical Inspector Certificate from ICC - International Code Council, current or obtain within 1 year of hire
preferred
NOTE: For preferred qualifications, the substitution of any combination of relevant and related education, training, and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability may be considered, including by way of example, specific experience or skill-based qualifications that may substitute for certain educational requirements, or a combination of relevant education and experience including supervisory experience.
