Fishery Sampler (Biological Science Assistant) Join the Department of Fish and Wildlife in Clackamas, Oregon to collect data that estimates fishing effort and catch of recreational and commercial fisheries in the Willamette and Columbia rivers, as well as harvest estimates for commercial fisheries occurring in the Columbia River.

Seasonal Periods

March 2, 2026 – June 15, 2026, Willamette Fishery Sampler

March 2, 2026 – June 30, 2026, Willamette Fishery Sampler

March 2, 2026 – October 31, 2026, Columbia Fishery Sampler

Responsibilities

Conduct angler creel surveys.

Perform hatchery sampling.

Collect samples at commercial fish buying stations.

Conduct fish passage counts.

Carry out spawning ground surveys.

Tag sturgeon.

Summarize and tabulate data.

Qualifications

Experience conducting angler creel surveys.

Experience identifying adult salmonids and other fish species.

Experience collecting and recording field data.

Experience interacting with the public.

Experience collecting biological samples from fish.

Pursuit of a Fisheries or Wildlife Science degree or related degree in biological or ecological sciences.
