POSITION OVERVIEW
Provide legal counsel, review and direction to the Company to ensure effective operation in accordance with federal, state and local laws, including but not limited to environmental matters. Manage department projects and personnel at assigned location(s).
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide legal counsel, advice, review, and direction to various departments and members of management on all levels regarding regulatory affairs and environmental issues
Ensure company compliance with all applicable federal, state & local commercial regulations and ensure all legal obligations of the company are properly recognized & carried out
Educate, develop and lead employees at assigned location(s), including performance evaluations, one-on-ones, coaching and employee engagement
Assist in the selection of employees at assigned location(s)
Interface with applicable governmental agencies, handle all regulatory charges, claims, investigations, settlements and other legal proceedings
Engage, manage, direct and evaluate the work of outside counsel as necessary to ensure proper and efficient handling of legal matters
Provide legal counsel and advice in areas of responsibility with respect to strategic programs and initiatives; coordinate with Legal departments and appropriate personnel of other FedEx opcos, as necessary.
Assist in designing and delivering education to employees relating to legal issues
Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures
Perform other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
Juris Doctorate Degree from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school and license to practice law in respective state
Ten (10) years' experience and demonstrated competence as practicing attorney (preferably with FedEx) in relevant area of law
Expertise in Regulatory matters preferred
In-depth knowledge of substantive legal area of expertise
Excellent negotiation and human relations skills
Experience and ability to use Microsoft Office Software, including but not limited to; Word, Excel, and Outlook
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and as a team member
WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be able to travel
This position will be domiciled at a FedEx Freight location in Memphis, TN or Harrison, AR. You will be required to work at a FedEx Freight location several times per week.
