Project Manager – United Steel Join United Steel’s team—New England’s largest fabricator and erector of structural steel and miscellaneous metals. We’re looking for an experienced project manager to lead projects that meet client expectations while protecting the company’s long‑term interests.

Responsibilities

Build and maintain relationships with customers, project managers, sub‑contractors, architects, engineers, and vendors.

Ensure complete knowledge transfer of safety, scope, proposal, and construction method to the project team.

Manage the team and project situations to maximize company profit and customer satisfaction.

Proactively anticipate, prepare for, and resolve potential issues by developing supportive plans.

Establish and monitor sub‑contracts and purchase agreements, ensuring compliance with project documents and client needs.

Act as a liaison between detailers, architects, and engineers, documenting communications that influence schedule, price, or change orders.

Coordinate and follow up on change orders, RFIs, and submittals to avoid delays.

Review financial information and reconcile discrepancies.

Approve and process invoices from detailers, erectors, and outside vendors.

Prepare accurate monthly billing and follow up on delinquent payments.

Maintain consistent follow‑up with field operations and implement any required actions.

Travel to project sites for weekly or bi‑weekly meetings and coordinate with customers and design teams.

Develop and maintain project schedules, identifying milestones and critical paths.

Coordinate deliveries from shop and vendors to meet planned schedules.

Communicate internal procedures through daily and weekly reports.

Manage project closeout, billing, and documentation.

Assist the Director of Project Management in policy development.

Supervise hiring, training, performance appraisal, and disciplinary actions in accord with policy and law.

Follow United Steel’s safety rules, including PPE usage when required.

Manage complex projects requiring additional detail, coordination, or travel.

Perform other duties as required to meet project needs and organizational goals.

Qualifications

7+ years of experience in project management, preferably with 5+ years in steel fabrication or erection.

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering (preferred).

Self‑starter who thrives both independently and in team environments.

Strong sense of urgency, able to handle bid processes and project demands while balancing company interests.

Excellent attention to detail, multitasking, and time‑management skills.

Basic math, technical writing, and strong oral and written communication skills.

Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, project‑management software, and PDF editors.

Superior interpersonal skills, capable of influencing and motivating across all levels.

Positive, collaborative, and adaptable to ambiguity and change.

Local travel required 25%–40%.

Must pass criminal background check and drug test.

Required Competencies

Working Conditions Full‑time position: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (40 hours per week). Some flexibility allowed with prior approval. Regular long hours and local travel are required.
