Developmental Operations Manager Location: Omaha, NE Salary: $81,000.00 – $118,000.00 Employment type: Full‑time Seniority level: Mid‑Senior level

Job Summary The Developmental Operations Manager is a manager‑level role within Valmont’s Coatings Division. The incumbent manages a galvanizing operation, overseeing safety, production, quality, shipping, scheduling, maintenance, chemical reclamation, lean implementation, and compliance reporting. The role requires a self‑starter with a background in OEM manufacturing or industrial coatings.

Essential Functions

Manage plant resources to ensure operations meet or exceed safety, quality, and production goals set by the General Manager.

Oversee production operations of a galvanizing facility.

Receive intensive training in industrial troubleshooting, accounting, financial forecasting, human resources, and galvanizing sales and services.

Identify operational best practices, perform lean audits and kaizen events, and travel occasionally for high‑level project management learning.

Within two to four years, transition into a higher‑level position managing own site with full P&L responsibility.

Facilitate positive customer relations through quality coated products and on‑time delivery.

Utilize production and analytical reports to gauge plant performance and make better decisions.

Review and control operation expenses for raw materials, operating supplies, and equipment.

Maintain manpower requirements through proper staffing, training, and development of production employees, supervisors, and technical personnel.

Ensure compliance with environmental and safety requirements per corporate policy and government regulations.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of relevant experience, Associate’s degree with 8+ years, or 10+ years of experience.

Ability to recognize and solve practical problems.

Prior supervisory experience.

Proven track record in lean manufacturing principles, including standard work, continuous improvement, problem resolution, and delivery of results.

Ability to travel approximately 10‑15%.

Willingness to relocate as required.

Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally; most frequent lift up to 10 pounds.

Ability to wear required PPE and work in outdoor weather and indoor facility conditions.

Passion, integrity, and drive to excel and deliver exceptional results.

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess

Master’s degree in Business Administration, Industrial Management, Manufacturing, Operations, Engineering, or Chemistry.

Minimum 5‑7 years of supervisory or management experience overseeing employees in multiple functional areas.

Previous experience in galvanizing or a coatings company (ideal but not required).

Bilingual – professional proficiency in Spanish and English.

Working knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations.

Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedural manuals.

Strong leadership skills and support of divisional business objectives.

Professional communication and interpersonal skills.

Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification.

Working Environment and Physical Efforts The role is performed in a manufacturing shop environment with exposure to dirt, grease, fumes, cold, heat, noise, and dust. It requires time spent in office and shop areas. Travel of 10‑15% is required. Proper ergonomic safeguards are mandatory. The incumbent may lift and move up to 15 pounds and needs good close, distance, peripheral, and depth vision.
