Your Job Our Georgia‑Pacific mill in Zachary, LA. has an opportunity for a Maintenance Mechanic/Millwright. This position will provide an opportunity for an individual to utilize their technical, analytical, troubleshooting and coordination skills to improve the reliability of our manufacturing systems.

Compensation $39.84 per hour

Shift Maintenance supports a Monday through Friday shift 7‑3:30; they also support the rotating 12‑hour shift. Rotating shifts are 5:30‑5:30, 4 on 4 off with 2 days/2 nights each shift.

Our Team Located just north of Baton Rouge, LA and west of Zachary, LA, the Port Hudson mill employs about 350 people and has two tissue/towel paper machines and produces consumer tissue products such as bath tissue and paper towels sold under the Georgia‑Pacific brand names of Quilted Northern and Brawny. The paper machines are state of the art for manufacturing of premium tissue paper. The Gulf Coast is only an hour away. There is plenty of history in the area to explore as well. For urban activities, Baton Rouge and New Orleans are just a short drive away.

What You Will Do

Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial machinery

Perform precision maintenance tasks on various industrial manufacturing processes, including paper machines, converting assets and more

Contribute to our reliability vision by striving to create an environment where equipment consistently operates as designed, runs predictably, and avoids unexpected failures.

Execute and improve the lubrication program

Adhere to all plant safety and environmental guidelines, policies and procedures and actively participating in safety program

Keep plant equipment in good working order consistent with company policies, equipment manuals and good engineering practices

Expedite repairs of critical equipment to minimize downtime

Effective communication is a key aspect of this role. You will be expected to engage with colleagues at all levels of the organization, using various channels such as reports, emails, verbal discussion, SAP CMMS work order comments, and participation in small and large group discussions, all within a collaborative team environment

Provide feedback for assigned and completed work

Work weekends, holidays, overtime and as needed

Work at heights, in confined spaces, and in hot, cold, and wet weather conditions in a facility where hazardous chemicals are present

Lift at least 50 lbs.

Maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations including wearing PPE (personal protective equipment)

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

High School Diploma or GED

Minimum of three (3) years of experience working as an industrial mechanic, millwright, or maintenance mechanic within a manufacturing or industrial environment

Experience troubleshooting issues with bearings, chains, sprockets, gearboxes, conveyors

Experience maintaining, replacing, repairing, and rebuilding pumps, bearings, and seals

Experience using a computer for documentation functions

Experience operating powered industrial equipment

What Will Put You Ahead

Two (2) year technical degree or higher in maintenance mechanics

Experience in precision maintenance practices such as lubrication, alignment techniques, and precision measuring

Experience with laser alignment and other precision measuring tools

Experience working with hydraulic and pneumatics systems

Experience maintaining and repairing powered industrial equipment

Experience working with conveying equipment

Experience reading and understanding mechanical drawings

Completion of an accredited millwright certification program or NCCER millwright certification

Experience using SAP

Machinery Lubrication Certification
