PV Solar Development Engineer
Location: Soltage’s headquarters in Jersey City, New Jersey. This is a hybrid role requiring on‑site attendance 3 days per week.
Job Type: Full‑time.

Position Expectations Soltage is seeking an experienced Development Engineer to perform design engineering and project support across multiple distributed utility‑scale (2‑20 MW) photovoltaic and storage projects in the Midwest, Southwest, Northeast, Southeast, and/or Mid‑Atlantic regions of the U.S. The candidate will provide development support, site assessments, and be responsible for all technical aspects of project development, including but not limited to creating preliminary site plans, single‑line diagrams, producing energy models, reviewing and submitting interconnection applications, overseeing engineering deliverables, and performing value engineering.
A successful candidate will have experience with photovoltaic system design, design tools such as AutoCAD, Helioscope, PVCase, and PVSYST, be detail‑oriented, and possess strong problem‑solving, communication, and time‑management skills.
Specific Job Functions
Provide technical evaluations for new business opportunities.
Create preliminary PV site layouts utilizing AutoCAD, PVCase and perform electricity production modelling with PVSYST.
Perform desktop and field site assessments. Critically evaluate site viability, capacity and production, and determine electrical interconnection options and strategies.
Create drawing sets for development and permitting utilizing AutoCAD and PVCase software.
Draft single line diagrams.
Oversee electrical, civil and racking engineering design deliverables, including coordination between engineering disciplines.
Coordinate and support internal project financing and accounting efforts.
Support vendor selection, procurement process, permitting submission, and interconnection applications.
Support the Project Development team with initial site plan analysis and system sizing and constraints, submission of interconnection applications, and review of development documentation (e.g., Phase 1 ESA’s, Geotechnical analysis, etc.).
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering from an accredited university (strongly preferred).
4+ years of progressive design engineering experience, including multiple Distributed Generation Ground‑Mounted PV solar farms or PV+BESS projects across multiple regions.
Experience with 3‑phase power and utility interconnection process required.
Working knowledge of the National Electric Code; NABCEP certifications and/or OSHA 10 certifications are a plus.
PV+BESS experience is a plus.
Proficient with AutoCAD and PVSYST software.
Strong mathematical skills and an understanding of financial concepts.
Proficient design engineering skills, detail‑oriented and organized.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
PVCase software proficiency is a plus.
Strong knowledge of electrical principles.
Working knowledge of civil and structural design aspects.
Positive attitude, high energy, supportive team member, problem solver capable of independent and collaborative work.
Self‑motivated with ability to balance multiple projects under tight deadlines.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with specific knowledge of MS Project, Google Suite, and Smartsheets.
