Prince William County’s Department of Development Services is offering creative, challenging, and rewarding work as a Construction Inspector – Plumbing. We are seeking motivated professionals who will take the lead and drive solutions.
About This Role:
Inspecting commercial and residential structures to ensure compliance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and other related codes.
Examining and evaluating construction documents for commercial, industrial, and residential projects.
Educating property owners and tenants, building engineers, contractors, other government agencies, and citizens on regulations and the importance of building safety.
Maintaining inspection reports using a county-provided laptop for added job mobility.
Performing administrative work associated with inspection reports, construction documents, and data entry.
Performing responsible Plumbing inspections of Residential, Commercial, or Industrial construction projects for compliance with applicable national, state, and local code requirements.
Assisting customers in navigating the different processes required for inspecting construction-related projects.
Minimum Requirements: High School diploma or G.E.D. and 2 years of related experience. Experience may include Mechanical/Gas Construction, and Inspections.
Preferences:
3-5 years of Plumbing Construction experience
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Working knowledge of the Virginia Plumbing Code
Ability to read and interpret construction plans and documents
Residential Plumbing Inspector, Commercial Plumbing Inspector, or Plumbing Plans Examiner state certifications
Master Plumbing License
Experience with Microsoft Office
Work Schedule: This position works Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (37.5 hours per week)
SPECIAL REQURIEMENTS:
Valid Driver’s License
Ability to pass a DMV Records Check
Completion of a successful pre-employment physical
Must become certified by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development as a Technical Assistant to the Building Official within 18 months of employment.
Starting Salary Range: $25.44‑$33.63 per hour ($49,608‑$65,578.50)
