The College of DuPage is a comprehensive community college located 27 miles west of downtown Chicago. We prepare students for a lifelong passion for learning on our 273‑acre campus which is home to nine associate degrees and a wide variety of professional and technical certificates.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
General knowledge of locksmith work including key and lock generation in a multi‑level keying system.
Fabricate and record all keys and locks to all College properties using an existing five‑level keying system.
Install, troubleshoot, and repair doors and door hardware locking systems and exit control systems.
Coordinate with campus police and facilities management to expedite requests for new keys, new lock, lock modification, re‑keying, or changing locks to all college facilities.
Maintain and repair safes and safe locking systems.
Read and review blueprints, project documents, and key schedules to ensure compliance with college locksmithing standards.
Research and recommend appropriate lock systems for all sizes of projects and assignments.
Change, maintain, and record specialty coded locks when necessary.
Maintain a computerized key/lock system database and lock shop spreadsheets.
Manage inventory control of locksmith supplies/materials within budgetary limits.
Daily creation and completion of computerized work order requests.
Coordinate and oversee external contractors to complete locksmith projects and work.
Assist in the annual preparation of the Locksmith’s budget.
Demonstrate the ability to be trained to install, troubleshoot, and repair 12‑volt and 24‑volt electrical access and exit control systems.
Demonstrate the ability to be trained to install, program, troubleshoot, and maintain interior and exterior hardwired and remote access handicap door operators.
Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
High School diploma required.
Two‑year Trade or Associate degree preferred.
Experience
3 years locksmith or directly related work experience required.
Must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License.
Proficiency in English spoken and written communication skills required.
Strong computer skills and knowledge in low voltage locking systems required.
Previous facilities management experience at a large multi‑building campus preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
Illinois Locksmith License within one year of hire required.
ALOA Certification preferred.
Hazardous Communications and Arc Flash training.
Working Conditions Work requires the use of power tools, electrical meters, personal computers, hand tools, college vehicles, and a key cutter. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, use power tools, and work outdoors in any weather. Uniforms supplied by the College of DuPage.
Position requires a background check, physical exam, and drug screen.
Hybrid Remote Eligible: No.
Salary 9 Hourly/Starting salary beginning at $26.25 hourly, based on experience.
