We are seeking an experienced structural/civil engineer with a strong background in forensic consulting. This role focuses on investigating damage and failures in residential and commercial properties, providing clients with clear, defensible analyses and recommendations. The engineer will assess building failures caused by water intrusion, storm events, construction defects, impacts, subsidence, and related conditions. The position also offers opportunities to deliver expert opinions in depositions or testimony.
Responsibilities
Carry out site inspections and forensic investigations into structural and envelope performance issues.
Analyze failures related to moisture damage, wind and hail, construction deficiencies, foundation movement, and impacts.
Document findings through photography, evidence collection, and detailed field notes.
Oversee and interpret testing procedures related to structural or envelope performance.
Produce well-supported technical reports that clearly explain cause, origin, and extent of damage.
Maintain regular communication with clients, including updates on project timelines and progress.
Provide expert opinions in depositions or courtroom settings when required.
Qualifications
Active Florida Professional Engineer (P.E.) licence.
At least 5 years of forensic engineering experience in structural or civil disciplines.
Demonstrated ability to determine cause and extent of building failures.
Strong technical writing skills, with experience producing professional forensic reports.
Valid driver’s licence with an acceptable driving record.
Additional
Prior experience with deposition or courtroom testimony preferred.
Ability to manage multiple projects independently while meeting deadlines.
Excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to defend findings clearly.
Comfortable working in the field, including roof access, ladder use, and confined spaces.
Physically able to lift 50 lbs and perform tasks requiring stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crawling.
Willingness to travel regularly throughout Florida and work flexible hours during peak demand.
