Role Overview As a Materials and Processes Engineer, you will lead small‑group project teams to propose, select, qualify, and test metals and composites for hyper‑sonic projectile and atmospheric re‑entry vehicle applications. You will perform M&P technical engineering assignments, troubleshoot problems, prepare technical and progress reports, engage with internal engineering teams and external suppliers, and coordinate with Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Engineering, and Procurement.

Responsibilities

Lead small‑group project teams to propose, select, qualify, and test metals and composites for hyper‑sonic projectile and atmospheric re‑entry vehicle applications.

Perform Materials and Processes (M&P) technical engineering assignments.

Troubleshoot problems and find innovative solutions.

Prepare technical and progress reports on assigned tasks, specifications, evaluate suppliers and analyze test reports.

Engage regularly with internal engineering teams and external suppliers to meet program objectives.

Coordinate with other disciplines such as Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Engineering, and Procurement.

Qualifications Basic Qualifications

BS Degree in Materials Engineering or related background.

Formal coursework, training, experience and/or knowledge in the design, analysis, and/or construction of mechanical parts or materials.

Good writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.

This position requires the ability to obtain a DOD security clearance.

Desired Skills

Knowledge of engineering drawings, bill of materials, alloys and heat treatment, polymeric materials and corrosion control methods.

Familiarity with technical requirements and engineering standards used in aerospace (specifications, program plans/requirements, etc.).

Proficient in Microsoft Office, computers and network systems.

Ability to work independently and multi‑task, with demonstrated leadership skills.

Energetic, detail oriented, and enjoy working in a dynamic development environment with shifting priorities.

Active DoD Secret clearance or higher.

Compensation & Benefits Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $57,500 - $101,430. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
