Responsibilities

Design of roadways and drainage for TDOT (or other DOT clients) with ability to perform geometric roadway design, assist in analyses, and develop calculations and contract documents (PS&E) per state and local agency requirements.

Work within a team of roadway engineers to prepare design and contract documents for transportation projects.

Manage and maintain project documentation, meeting project schedules, budgets, and scope.

Collaborate with Lochner offices across the firm through work‑sharing to deliver projects on time and within budget.

Who you are

BS in Civil Engineering required.

Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.

Candidate may report in‑office or work a hybrid schedule; Tennessee resident highly preferred.

5+ years of experience in roadway design and plan preparation on transportation projects for DOT clients.

TDOT experience preferred.

Experience in MicroStation required; OpenRoads Designer a plus.

Drainage, stormwater, and erosion control design experience a plus.

Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

Traffic modeling, roundabout design, drainage design, and/or highway lighting design experience a plus.

Work Environment The work environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The noise level is usually loud.

Physical Requirements Employee must intermittently sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist, stoop, crawl, and lift. Must lift and/or move light equipment up to 20 pounds. Must be alert to equipment in the field, occasionally work near hazardous machinery, walk on uneven ground, and work in dust, gas, fumes, noise, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights.
