GM Performance Power Units – Concord, NC Title: ESME Assembly Process Engineer

Job Summary GM Performance Power Units (GM PPU) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated ESME Assembly Process Engineer to join our innovative engineering team in Concord, NC. This vital role focuses on safely building high‑performance battery systems with the utmost quality.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the design and optimization of the manufacturing process of the Energy Store (ES) and Energy Store Main Enclosure (ESME).

Design and analyze production processes to ensure personnel safety at all times.

Work with the Quality Department to develop in‑process and end‑of‑line quality procedures for various assembly processes including equipment planning, evaluation, and selection.

Actively contribute to the design process of the Energy Store (ES) and Energy Store Main Enclosure (ESME) to achieve Built‑In Quality.

Conduct root cause analysis for any problems found throughout the build process and communicate findings to relevant team members while documenting learnings.

Create and maintain manufacturing operation work instructions.

Document and communicate assembly process developments and innovations clearly.

Work with the ERS Assembly Manager and High Voltage Safety Supervisor to ensure adherence to safety, quality, and operational standards.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field.

2+ years of relevant industry experience in battery pack assembly engineering.

Experience programming industrial robots.

Proficient in 3D CAD software (CATIA, NX, SolidWorks, or similar).

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.

Self‑driven with a demonstrated ability to lead projects independently.

Experience in automotive, aerospace, motorsport, or other high‑performance industries is a strong plus but not mandatory.

Desirable Skills

Proven experience in high‑voltage system assembly, ideally in Formula 1, Formula E, or advanced automotive sectors.

Professional experience with one or more types of welding processes.

Knowledge of Design for Manufacture/Assembly (DFM/DFA) principles and tooling/jig design for motorsport or low volume high‑performance prototyping.

Knowledgeable about using PLCs for safety or automation related tasks.

Familiarity with F1 technical regulations, particularly those governing ESME components and power unit integration.
