Multi-Craft HVAC Technician University Housing and Dining Department

Location: UT MAIN CAMPUS

Job Details General Notes: This position pays an additional monthly stipend of $500 for a current Master or Journeyman Electrical, Plumbing or HVAC Class A or B license issued by Texas and maintained in current status.

Purpose To provide journey‑level and/or Master Multi‑Crafted technical trade skills in the maintenance, repair, installation, and operation of systems for residence halls, apartments, and dining facilities.

Responsibilities

Perform HVAC installation, repair, and maintenance of all equipment and mechanical systems; experience with hydronic heating/cooling, refrigeration, and ice makers.

Provide multi‑crafted work in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, kitchen equipment, and painting as needed.

Analyze work orders, troubleshoot and diagnose system malfunctions, and coordinate repairs with other trades.

Communicate with supervisors, staff, and residents regarding repairs and work order status.

Complete and submit accurate paperwork, including sign‑offs, status updates, preventive maintenance, and material usage.

Participate in safety activities, report unsafe acts, and promote lockout/tag‑out training.

Promote professional development through ongoing training and workshops.

Be on-call 24/7 for emergency repairs, including weekends and overtime as needed.

Drive a UT vehicle to work sites, transporting equipment and supplies.

Required Qualifications

High school graduation or GED.

At least 5 years of experience in building construction, mechanical, or utilities trade with 3 years journey‑level experience.

Familiarity with tools and equipment common to the specified trades.

Preferred Qualifications

More than five years of journey‑level hydronic HVAC experience.

Electrical experience with conduit, wiring, controls, and repair in commercial/residential settings.

Master or journeyman HVAC license issued by Texas.

Experience with apartment or residence hall maintenance.

Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Driving Requirements This job requires a class C driver's license and a current three‑year driving record. Non‑Texas residents must obtain a Texas license within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.

Salary Range $58,500+ depending on qualifications.

Working Conditions

Uniforms and/or PPE supplied.

Work in all weather and extreme temperatures.

Exposure to chemical fumes, office conditions, electrical and mechanical hazards.

Repetitive use of keyboard; manual dexterity; climbing stairs/ladders; lifting up to 80 lbs and moving 212 lbs.

Must pass strength and agility tests prior to employment.

Work Shift

Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM (hours may vary).
