Maintenance Supervisor – Night Shift
Location: Freeport, IL Area

Our food and beverage manufacturing client in the Freeport, IL area is seeking a
Maintenance Supervisor – Night Shift
to lead the plant’s maintenance operations, ensure equipment reliability, and support continuous production throughput. This leader will oversee the Maintenance Technicians on the assigned shift, directing maintenance activities, supporting complex troubleshooting, and ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory standards.
This is a critical hands‑on leadership role responsible for developing technical staff, managing PM/PdM programs, optimizing spare parts utilization, and driving improvements in safety, quality, equipment uptime, and overall maintenance performance.
Responsibilities
Provide daily supervision, leadership, and technical direction to the Maintenance team on the Night Shift.
Assign and direct work to ensure timely and effective maintenance support across the plant.
Oversee PM programs, lubrication schedules, staffing, job assignments, vacation planning, and performance evaluations.
Deliver training and development for Maintenance Technicians, Machinists, mechanics, and operators.
Perform or assist in complex maintenance tasks as needed.
Promote a strong customer-service mindset with internal partners.
Communicate and enforce company policies, safety practices, and operating procedures.
Ensure all equipment is maintained to support production schedules within safety, quality, regulatory, and budgetary guidelines.
Troubleshoot mechanical issues, analyze root causes, and determine corrective actions.
Plan and implement mechanical and operational improvements to increase uptime and throughput.
Participate in planning, evaluation, installation, and modification of equipment.
Monitor maintenance work order systems to ensure timely and accurate documentation.
Ensure plant equipment remains functional, safe, and compliant.
Monitor and enforce OSHA, company safety standards, GMPs, and regulatory compliance across the shift.
Lead safety initiatives within the Maintenance Department and support plantwide safety objectives.
Maintain documentation of installation, maintenance, inspections, and corrective actions.
Work closely with production personnel, engineering, and operations leadership to optimize processes.
Support production efficiency improvements by recommending equipment enhancements and improved maintenance practices.
Interface with outside contractors and vendors for scheduled work and parts procurement.
Maintain employee records as applicable.
Provide documented evidence of maintenance activities, key events, failures, and corrective actions.
Assist in developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the Maintenance Department.
Participate in reviewing production changes and facility‑wide improvement initiatives.
Requirements
Minimum 5 years of experience in Maintenance, preferably within food or beverage manufacturing.
Minimum 5 years of leadership experience supervising maintenance teams.
Experience implementing maintenance policies, procedures, and reliability programs.
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, equipment reliability, and quality systems.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong strategic thinking, analytical ability, and problem‑solving skills.
High level of attention to detail and ability to multitask.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with ERP systems and statistical software.
Ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams and support multiple departments effectively.
