General Pipe Layer – Carolina Civil LLC We are seeking a reliable and experienced General Pipe Layer to join our civil construction team. This role is responsible for installing underground utilities (storm, sanitary, water, and related structures) safely, accurately, and efficiently on a variety of site development and infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

Install underground utilities including storm sewer (RCP, HDPE, etc.), sanitary sewer, water mains and services, and underground structures (manholes, catch basins, inlets, valves, fittings).

Set up and use lasers, grade rods, and other layout tools to achieve proper line and grade.

Read and interpret plans, profiles, and grade sheets to ensure accurate pipe installation.

Check pipe for proper slope, alignment, and joint tightness; ensure proper bedding and backfill.

Assist equipment operators with trenching, shoring, and excavation safety.

Cut, fit, and join pipe using hand tools, power tools, and appropriate methods and materials.

Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure tools and equipment are properly used and stored.

Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and site‑specific safety requirements.

Perform general labor tasks as needed to support the crew (shoveling, raking, compaction, spotter duties, etc.).

Qualifications

Minimum of 2+ years' experience as a pipe layer or underground utility laborer in civil/site construction.

Working knowledge of storm, sanitary, and water main installation methods and materials.

Ability to read and understand construction drawings, profiles, and grade stakes.

Experience using pipe lasers, transits/levels, and grade rods.

Familiarity with trench safety (sloping, shoring, trench boxes) and underground utility best practices.

Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Strong commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in trenches for extended periods.

Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs regularly.

Comfortable working around heavy equipment and in active construction environments.

Ability to work overtime, Saturdays, and varying shifts as required by project schedule.
