Spriggs Excavation, Inc. Salary: $30,000 – $36,000 DOE. Job Summary The Shop Mechanic is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, fabrication, and welding on a wide range of diesel‑powered heavy equipment. This position plays a critical role in ensuring operational readiness of fleet and construction machinery, including excavators, loaders, trenchers, forklifts, trailers, and specialty equipment. The ideal candidate is a self‑starter with strong technical expertise and a commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork. Key Responsibilities

Perform comprehensive electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic diagnostics and repairs on construction equipment and vehicles. Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance, inspections, and performance testing across the full fleet. Fabricate or modify components using welding, cutting, and metalworking equipment (MIG/Stick welding, plasma cutting, torch work, etc.). Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems, cooling systems, and hydraulic circuits. Identify necessary parts, tools, and materials; coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely availability. Accurately complete maintenance logs, inspection reports, and work orders in a timely and legible manner. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment—including proper storage and labeling of oils, lubricants, and chemicals. Assist in scheduling and prioritizing equipment repairs as machinery returns to the yard. Collaborate with field crews and operators to understand equipment concerns and deliver solutions. Operate heavy equipment as needed to test repairs or relocate machinery. Follow company safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and best practices at all times. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Shop Manager or Superintendent. Required Skills & Qualifications

Must be at least 21 years of age (per company insurance requirements). Technical school certification plus 2+ years of experience, or 5+ years of relevant hands‑on experience in heavy equipment repair and maintenance. Proficiency in welding and fabrication, including ability to read blueprints or fabricate from concept. Strong knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulic schematics, and mechanical assemblies. Ability to safely operate and maneuver heavy equipment for testing and positioning. Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to prioritize and delegate tasks when needed. Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management capabilities. Education & Certifications

High school diploma or equivalent required. Post‑secondary technical training or degree in Diesel Technology, Welding, or related field preferred. Valid Driver’s License required; CDL strongly preferred. Knowledge of workplace safety standards and environmental compliance practices. Physical & Work Environment Requirements

Ability to lift up to 60 lbs and perform physical tasks including standing, climbing, bending, and working in varying temperatures. Ability to work extended hours, evenings, or weekends as workload demands. Comfortable working around heavy equipment, noise, dust, grease, and outdoor elements. Benefits
