Caterpillar Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Experienced) – Shop & Field Service
Mustang Cat, an authorized Caterpillar® dealer in Houston, Texas, invites experienced diesel technicians skilled in earthmoving equipment to join as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic.
What You’ll Do
Inspect, service, diagnose, and repair Cat diesel-powered equipment and construction machinery
Perform setup, diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance
Replace components (hydraulics, fuel systems, transmissions, undercarriage, electrical, etc.)
Work in a fully equipped shop with mentor technicians or operate from a company‑provided service truck to service customers at job sites
Maintain high‑quality standards and follow all safety procedures
Position Requirements
Must own tools required to perform heavy equipment repairs
High school diploma or equivalent
Strong mechanical understanding of diesel engines, electrical, and hydraulic systems
Hands‑on experience with transmissions, track systems, components, and fuel systems
Previous experience with Caterpillar or competitive earthmoving equipment brands
Proficient in technical diagnostics and able to use Cat ET (Electronic Technician) or similar systems
Strongly Preferred
Welding and fabrication experience: MIG welding, arc gouging, oxyacetylene torch
Familiarity with hydraulic pumps, valves, and motors
Formal training from OEM programs or accredited technical schools
Experience using diagnostic tools such as Cat ET, Cummins Insite, or competitor platforms
