Position Summary This position is an intensive educational experience involving online, classroom, and hands‑on practical training over 11 months with opportunities in Michigan and Indiana. The program begins with basic technical knowledge, equipment systems introduction, technician computer usage, and workplace safety. The 11 months conclude with classes in welding, failure analysis, and advanced troubleshooting. Throughout, participants focus on equipment systems such as electrical, hydraulics, engines, powertrains, and fuel systems.
Position Duties / Responsibilities
Participate in classroom, lab, and hands‑on shop training aligned with MacAllister’s technical and safety standards.
Learn foundational systems including hydraulics, engines, ignition, powertrain, fuel, and braking.
Complete written and practical assessments to determine knowledge and skill development.
Work alongside experienced technicians and mentors to reinforce classroom concepts.
Meet expectations for safety, quality, and attendance throughout the program.
Maintain tools and equipment, adhering to cleanliness and organization standards in the shop and lab spaces.
Attend career‑development classes focusing on communication, teamwork, and long‑term career planning.
Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
High school diploma or GED.
Pass mechanical aptitude and reading comprehension assessments.
Reliable transportation to/from assigned branch and classroom learning location(s).
Ability to work 1st or 2nd shift during the training period.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to build and maintain effective customer and professional relationships through strong interpersonal skills.
Complex problem‑solving, critical thinking, and creative thinking skills.
Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written, and listening skills.
Leadership skills, including decision‑making and goal‑setting.
Project‑management skills and the ability to manage change and conflict.
Detail‑oriented and a team player.
Moderate computer skills, including the use of industry software and systems.
Other Requirements Of Position
Works under limited supervision; independently determines approach and methods, interprets policy in terms of objectives, informs manager of unusual situations with far‑reaching implications.
Major responsibilities typically require modest creativity and latitude; operates under general instructions with established procedures and policies.
No formal responsibility for supervising others.
Frequently communicates with coworkers, management, Caterpillar representatives, and Dealer Solution Network representative.
