Construction Project Accountant

Job Description
The primary function of the Construction Project Accountant is to support the Accounting department in managing the financial obligations of the Company, including: Accounts Payable; Construction Draws, and related correspondence for construction projects.
Accounts Payable Functions:
Receives and accurately posts payables, ensuring appropriate approvals and job-cost coding
Ensures timely payments of vendor invoices and expense vouchers, and maintains accurate records of each
Reconciles monthly vendor statements in a timely manner
Reviews applicable accounting reports and accounts payable register to ensure accuracy
Ensures payables are scanned, labeled and electronically attached to appropriate jobs in various software programs
Effectively communicates with contractors regarding incomplete invoice packages, declined invoices and payment status inquiries
Construction Draw Functions:
Process construction draw requests for approximately 10 active projects
Coordinate draw requirements with various lenders and ensure proper documentation is included
Review contractor invoices and obtain all necessary waivers
Work with field Construction Project Managers to confirm all work that is invoiced is completed
Review actual and budgeted costs with each draw submittal
Monitor lien notices
Update all joint check information in the company accounting system
Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is preferred
Knowledge of General Accounting Principles
Previous homebuilder and/or general construction industry experience is REQUIRED
Must have experience with Mechanic’s Liens, Preliminary Notices and Releases
Experience with General ledger and Accounts payable (Minimum of 3 years)
Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Excel and Outlook
Experience with Sage 100 Contractor (formerly Master Builder), and Builder Trend are a plus
Excellent communication and organization skills, with an eye for detail and accuracy are imperative
Ability to think “outside the box” and use deductive reasoning to solve problems
Must possess the ability to recognize, analyze and solve problematic situations
Strong interpersonal relationship skills and the ability to relate well with a variety of personality types
Self-starter with ability to multi-task in a high-stress, fast-paced environment
Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
