Job Title Patient Accounts Representative
Department Patient Billing/Accounts
Reports To Billing Supervisor/Accounting Manager
FLSA Status Non-Exempt
Job Summary The Patient Accounts Representative is responsible for handling various aspects of the patient billing process. This includes managing insurance claims, resolving billing issues, processing payments, and ensuring accurate account information. The role requires excellent customer service skills to address patient inquiries and disputes while maintaining confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
Key Responsibilities Billing and Payments
Process patient payments and post them to appropriate accounts.
Review patient accounts for accuracy and resolve any discrepancies.
Verify insurance coverage and troubleshoot discrepancies.
Generate and send patient bills, as well as itemized statements.
Insurance and Claims
Follow up on insurance claims, including denials, rejections, and appeals.
Work with insurance companies and patients to ensure timely claim resolution.
Provide documentation and support to ensure claims are processed correctly.
Customer Service
Respond to patient inquiries regarding billing, insurance, and account statuses via phone, email, or in-person.
Assist patients in setting up payment plans and explain billing policies.
Address complaints or escalated billing issues professionally and effectively.
Account Reconciliation
Review patient accounts regularly to ensure accuracy.
Reconcile payment discrepancies and follow up on overdue accounts.
Ensure that accounts are handled in compliance with facility guidelines and regulatory standards.
Reporting and Documentation
Prepare and submit reports on accounts receivable and billing status.
Maintain accurate patient account records and billing documentation.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other relevant healthcare regulations.
Required Qualifications Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
1-2 years of experience in a healthcare billing or accounts role preferred, but not mandatory.
Knowledge of medical billing procedures and healthcare insurance processes is preferred, but not mandatory.
Skills
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Proficiency in billing software and office applications (e.g., Excel, Word).
Working Conditions
Office environment within a healthcare setting.
May require some interaction with patients in person or over the phone.
Occasionally handling escalated billing issues that require de‑escalation techniques.

Our compliance program includes patient follow‑up and remote access to efficacy and adherence data. Each patient is set up in the comfort of their own home at their convenience, including nights and weekends. We specialize and focus on sleep therapy for active duty & retired military service members and their families. Our patients receive quarterly replacement supplies direct to their home. As a nationwide provider, PCSing, TDY, and deployed service members will continue to receive replacement supplies sent to their home, TDY, or deployed location.
