The Developmental Therapist with Early Learning programs (serving children birth- age 5) in St. Joseph County integrates therapeutic support strategies into classrooms, documents support strategies modeled for teachers, and provides training and education on delays, disabilities and challenging behaviors to teachers and families. The therapist administers developmental screenings as needed and provides Early Intervention Therapies as a First Steps Developmental Therapist (birth – age 3). This role involves planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting each child's therapeutic plan in collaboration with parents/guardians during home visits.

Job Type: Full-time, Part-time

Responsibilities

Devise and implement teaching styles and strategies compatible with Early Learning Programs and individual children’s developmental status.

Facilitate the growth of the child's caregivers as teachers by providing resources and support necessary to meet goals.

Support teachers and children in Early Learning Program classrooms.

Provide caregivers with a developmental model of learning to clarify and realize a child's needs, enabling them to make good program choices.

Visit and consult with other community service providers who serve children LOGAN supports.

Consult with children/families in small groups that may have similar needs.

Prepare, with parents and agencies, an Individualized Family Service Plan that encompasses the family's and child's developmental needs.

Evaluate and record each child's programming, recommending curriculum enhancements or alternative placements as needed.

Alert appropriate staff or professionals to any special needs of the child or family.

Suggest expanded services or innovative programs to the Director and other Infant/Toddler staff.

Ensure the health and safety of children served at all times.

Serve as a role model for persons served and protect children's rights.

Participate in training as required by supervisors or for all LOGAN staff.

Plan trainings, instructional activities, and community activities.

Furnish required documentation on a timely basis.

Respect confidentiality and cultural diversity of families, teachers, children, and programs in accordance with LOGAN policies.

Serve on LOGAN committees as needed.

Provide evaluations across settings to determine program needs and develop outcomes for Individual Family Service Plans.

Provide reports and written programs to families, teachers, and professionals following First Steps guidelines.

Qualifications Education

Bachelor’s degree or higher in child development, special education, early childhood education, or nursing; meeting Indiana First Steps Program requirements.

Experience

One year of experience serving children 0-3 is preferred.

One year of experience working in infant and/or toddler classrooms in an Early Learning Program is preferred but not required.

Communicate effectively with staff, supervisors, and agency personnel.

Establish and maintain effective relationships with community partners, teachers, children, and families.

Provide developmental screenings and outcomes, and demonstrate activities and strategies to families and caregivers.

Be creative in exploring new and innovative ideas.

Work independently and exercise sound judgment.

Maintain organized paperwork and documentation.

Lift a child 5 years of age or younger, weighing up to approximately 55 pounds, with adaptive equipment.

Have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Be licensed in Indiana as a First Steps Provider.

Complete all required training related to screenings, Early Learning curricula, professional development, etc.
