Responsibilities

Approve residential loans and exceptions to policy within scope of authority in accordance with company policy and secondary market guidelines.

Evaluate risk and set terms for approval based on investor and program‐specific guidelines.

Provide evaluation and analysis of mortgage loan credit packages to determine compliance with investor and agency guidelines and outside agency rules and regulations.

Review and approve appraisal reports, assessing company risk due to property appraisal in accordance with guidelines.

Maintain contact with outside agencies to obtain required information and/or documentation that may change periodically.

Prioritize tasks, remain highly organized, and demonstrate solid problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.

Ensure Corporate Credit Policy and all Federal and State Lending Regulations are upheld.

Maintain direct endorsements with FHA (DE) and Senior Appraisal Reviewer designation from VA (SAR).

Accurately evaluate and analyze credit risk factors to determine compliance with investor guidelines, outside agency rules, and regulatory rules, and render final loan decisions. Document terms for loan approval, modification, or reason for denial in an approved organizational format.

Use the Encompass processing system to provide consistency of underwriting conditions and complete all required tracking screens, including HMDA data.

Conduct final review of underwriting conditions to confirm the file meets program and investor guidelines.

Assist loan originators and processors with structuring loans to meet investor requirements, and assist operations staff with questions regarding AUS systems, underwriting guidelines, and other underwriting-related issues.

Communicate and discuss underwriting decisions effectively, listening and evaluating challenges to underwriting conditions or decisions.

Maintain job knowledge by reading investor announcements, bulletins, periodic updates, and attending applicable training seminars.

Identify, develop, and train talented processors for possible promotion into underwriting.

Perform all other duties as required.

Qualifications

College degree preferred; high school diploma with commitment to continuing job‑related coursework acceptable.

Minimum 3–5 years underwriting experience with knowledge of lending requirements and proficiency in analyzing risk.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Internet use, and Encompass processing systems.

Proficient in analyzing risk and underwriting conventional and government loans to secondary market guidelines.

Attention to detail and accuracy.

Excellent written communication and strong verbal skills.

Projects a professional image and collaborates with others to accomplish goals and meet demanding deadlines.
